How well do you know the inside of a heater box????
« on: March 04, 2009, 21:38:35 »
I am sure there is someone here who knows it well enough.....

My heater fan motor is goosed (technical term that) and always has been!  Its never been a problem as because over about 10mph the scoop effect of the air intake on the wing did a fair job of pushing air through the vents.  Now I have a problem....   The cable on the top of the heater box got ragged off when I was taking the engine out last time and is well and truly knackered....

The cable connection on the side of the box is still attached at that end but when I move from hot to cold in the car it feels floppy and does nothing - is that the ragged off cable?  I have no hot air coming through the vents (plenty of air, just bloody freezing....)  What do the two controls do?  If i wedge the top one over to the nearside (when you let it go it springs to the offside) I just get no (or very little) air through the vents.  When I left this one alone and wedged the other one up I also seem to get less air and its still cold...  Does anyone have a diagram of the inside of a heater box that I can use to work this out?

Both pipes into and out of the heater box are hot, im confident the matrix isnt blocked..

I just want to wedge, & botch the heaters to hot (well warmish) untill about june then I want to set it to cold till next year...  Surely it cant be that hard?

PS, I am doing the MAC on friday, help me get some heat PLEASE!!!

Sounds like a connection to a flap inside the box has come loose.

I have some pictures here:

But I don't think any of them will be of use since I only changed the matrix.

Cheers for that!  Well, its sorted!  I drilled out god knows how many rivvets and got the top off the heater box.  People said the matrix wouldnt come out with the box in situe but it will just with a lot of bending etc!

I have wedged the flap, filled and gap around the matrix with foam and discovered that my heater motor isnt knackered it jus  had a big chunk of plastic stuck in it!  So we now have heat!!

Thank gawd for that!  I was starting to think we might return from the mac with hypothermia!

Cheers,

Mike
