Hi Wizard,
110 truck doublecabs, they do look great !
In itself a TD5 is a good engine, it’s just that you might need to hook it up to a diagnostics computer every now and then when (if) things go wrong (no big deal really…)
To check if it has the “oil in loom”- problem, take off the big red connector from the ECU computer (located under the drivers seat) and have a look inside. As the internals of the connector are white, the oil will show easily if it’s there.
Changing the first bit of injector loom isn’t that difficult (just under the top engine cover)
But if the contamination is really serious, then you might need to replace the complete loom all the way to the ECU…and that is a different story.
Having said that, chances are that there is no loom-problem at all and the engine is running fine. Take it for a trip on the motorway and give it some “oempff”, a TD5 should easily accelerate to 80 mph without any hesitancy, hick ups or dips in power !
If there are dips or hesitancy:
Oil in loom, faulty accelerator assembly, sticking waste gate, faulty fuel pressure regulator……..
Good luck !
Edwin
(very happy with my 200 TDI now it’s in…and running !)
