I'm sorry, i am not doubting the plight in Africa or other such places, but surely shouldnt we deal with the plight we have on our own soil first?

That comment is not aimed to annoy anyone or to cause an argument, just stating my opinion on the matter.  People are free to donate to what they see fit!

Badgersrover, I do agree that there is lots to do in this country but the money from comic relief does lots for this country as well, like support for the kids that are carers for their parents and the homeless.

and my grandad died on rednose day 93 funny that and its true!!!!!!!!

agree with both side however charity does start at home if the split was 50-50 then I don't think there would be much debate!!!!! about where the funds go!!

yes i really admire all the work that goes into such events to make money for others be they in the uk or other parts of the globe
but have to say when companies are falling by the way side friends are being made reduntant partners out of work
im sorry but i just cant afford to help in any way.

Trouble is, I doubt very much of the donations actually get to the people that they're intended to get to.  I would suspect the majority of it ends up in the hands of the warlords and watnot out there, rather than those who would really benefit from it.

the event gets very samey and boring every year i dont even bother watching anymore, if it made a big difference then it wouldnt be needed year on year, until the people that run half these countries are sorted out we,ll be back again doing the same next year
I also dont like being bullied in the street "because its a good cause" by people carrying out events for it
i will give where i see a benefit and this year its supporting my father in law who has been diagnosed with bone cancer

I think IIRC it started off trying to feed them, you don't here that much any more so perhaps people giving a small amount made a large difference!!!!!

Everyone is entitled to donate to favoured charities, it is your choice. As mentioned 40% goes to the UK, but as redmavtaj said they would swap our problems for theirs without thinking about it, how anyone can look at a child suffering like some of those and not want to help baffles me, you don't have to spend anything, you can dress up in a 6ft rabbit suit  :lol: and help buy collecting for them. The only thing I have against the message this year is that would it not be better to try to tackle to cause of the problem.

last september my 4x4 club done a charity walk from hirwaun to cardiff, 28 miles, we arranged it all ourselves and we hoped by getting alot of press it would show that 4x4'ers in general are a good bunch. in total we raised £640.71 and we gave 100% to the mcmillan cancer support charity.

when i was filling the forms out i had to send to the councils about where and how much was going to charity, you can see why half these people do them you could take most back by expenditures.

this year were pulling a coach for a local childrens charity,

i think we should do more to help people in our own country 1st,

its all good raiseing money if it goes to good deeds what peed me of is them saying it was going to give children school uniforms so they can go to school why cant they were what ever they want and put the money to something better
also them saying the min they will accept is £1 which meens all those that may give 50p are turned away and that could and up to a lot of money wasted

If you want some bedtime reading - ask ALL charities for their policy of funding, and se how much ACTUALLY goes to the intended source, wifes gran did that and was shocked - OXFAM were the worst roughly 5p from every £1 goes to the charity, the rest is 'expenses'
I only give to UK charities now - and on MY terms.

The African schools are very particular about this, its about developing kids attitudes to education, giving the kids not in education something to aspire to and giving them pride in their appearance among other things. You find the same on the poorest of Caribbean Islands, they are also very particular about uniform.

Without these uniforms some of the kids would turn up in almost nothing, they have no ability to have pride in their appearance which has been proven to ave an impact on the attitude to learning.

my dad died a month ago of heart attack very sudenly so i give to british heart foundation,
my grandparents had cancer so i give to cancer research,
everybody does there bit in some way helping others.

It made people donate, if they had done nothing that's exactly what they would have got.

The same could be said for this country!! How much money is raised by people like Macmillan and the British Heart Foundation etc because the government won't fund the systems properly??
