knocking and whiring

can anyone help i have a whiring noise on the front nearside wheel consistant with the road speed and then when i turn left or right i get a knocking noise also could anyone suggest what it could be? Many thanks in advance

Sounds like your wheel bearing could be shot, the easiest way to check them is to give the wheel a tug to see if there is any play in it.

ive had it jacked up and try to move the tyre backward and fowards but theres no play in it.so im now stuck

cv joint if its knockin when your turnin may need re greasin or is [!Expletive Deleted!] but they cheap enough to replace

Just get a new one. They're not that expensive. Greasing is unlikely to work unless its bone dry and that is the case, the damage has already been done.
