TOOK MY MUM TO HOSPITAL TODAY, AND ON THE WAY OUT IN OUR DISCO, THE ROAD OUT OF KINGSMILL HOSPITAL WAS BUSY AS USUAL, GOING ROUND A PARKED VAN THE TRAFFIC WAS AT A STAND STLL, SO AS NOT TO BLOCK THE ROAD COMPLETLY I WENT TO REVERSE, CHECKING ALL 3 MIRRORS.  MY HEART MISSED A BEAT WHEN THERE WAS A CRUNCH.  :oops:  :oops:   I'D REVERESED INTO A VAUXHALL CORSA,  BUT I DID NOT SEE IT AS THE ROOF WAS BELOW OUR SPARE TYRE, AND IT WAS NOT VISABLE IN OUR SIDE MIRRORS.  WAITING NOW TO FEEL THE COST.  MAKES ME WONDER HOW SAFE ARE LITTLE CARS!!!! :(  :(

Get the small camera kits, with small monitor, used a lot on wagons on building sites, set cam high on back, like an electronic rear view mirror.

Compact kits nowadays, or use one of those small lcd tv with a cheap dc cctv cam

It depends on the style. The in bumper ones are great - but give the wrong readings if covered in mud (obviously!).

Ones that hang down.... no go :)

or put a mirror on the rear roof rack looking down like they do on the jap motors but just remember to tell Simon its not for him to comb his hair or do is makeup.

The only thing that saved his bumper was the fact my tank guard ploughed two furrows in his bonnet.....

In other words - I was halfway up his bonnet before I noticed :(

Erm, being a driving instructor, I must say I teach the pupils to 'look in the direction of travel'..... ie when reversing, look through the rear window, anything else (mirrors, side windows etc) is purely an 'observation'.....

You wouldnt go forward whilst only checking in the mirrors now would you :)

But to be fair, the Corsa driver shouldnt have been so close either and I also teach the pupils to understand where they need to be to be seen by 'larger vehicles' in front, ie in their mirror view.... and always make sure they are not in the drivers blind spot

Sorry it happened  :(  It just means you need to go out in the mud to releive yourself of frustrations...... Hope it comes back soon

I remember being in devon and an artic timber lorry reversed into us on narrow road trying to let another artic through. It went to dispute and the insurance basicly said he was to blame as there was big traffic jam behind us anyway(besides we had clear view of both his mirrors so no excues)
It was a rental Corsa and did about £1500 damage but was still driveable fortunatly

thanks guys for admitting those little bumps makes me feel a lot better,
i did look out of rear window but i still could not see it as i was also on a speed hump, which made me even taller than the corsa :D  :D

Funnily enough about 15 years ago I was delivering around Lincolnshire, I stopped on this quite back road in a town, looking for a company, no traffic at all around, parked at the kerb, found the company was back about 20 yds behind me, so I got in, (nothing behind me then), four ways on looked behind me (in mirrors), all clear, started reversing, the next thing was a beep followed by a slight bang. I stopped got out walked round the back of the motor, there was this little car with my back chassis member right up the bonnet and touching the window pillars

It seeems she had pulled right up behind me, slightly off the kerb, right in the mirror blind spot, looking for something, looked up saw the 4 ways and froze, the beep was her after watching the tail of the truck creeping up her bonnet, and the bang was the cross member hitting the windscreen pillars :oops:

One thing was, she could get my number, the plate was about 12" from her head, plus she had a nice set of go faster stripes up the bonnet
