12000lb KMS supplied Winch .. ?

Not sure if this is posted in the right place but I was wondering if any body had any experience or views on these winches advertised on ebay. The 12000lb winch is about £230 and comes with a Guarantee. This seems too cheap for such a big winch. Just wondered what you guys think. thats exactly what i've got on my disco and its worked bloody hard,

they are a bit slow and aren't a competition winch but if you are just wanting to do the odd recovery then i can't fault mine

I have no experience of this winch, but you do get wot you pay for. It's cheap for a reason,buy cheap buy twice. Others will tell you diffrent. 30 years of using big(40ton) and small winches when you are in the sticky stuff isn't the time for it to let you down. Just something to think about

I have the earlier version, been using it for 2 years now and it`s never let me down. yes it is slow, but for occasional use its fine. If your going to use a winch all the time, consider a Warn/ Superwinch or similar, but if you find yourself needing to use a winch all the time I would start to reconsider my routes and driving ability, a winch is the last resort

What do people mean by occasional use?

I consider my winch to only get occasionaly use, but then the last pay and play I was at I got used 5 times pulling mine to where I wanted it and a further 2 times recoving a friends 4x4. So far the EP9 on mine has been problem free, though I have flattened the battery with it once.

There are a few people on the 4x4 forums using these cheap winches and generally they seem to work OK, but they don't seem to last as long so if it is more of a 'just in case' than a means of getting from A to B then they should fine, though arguably a hi-lift would more practical. Like any other winch, good maintenace will help them last a lot longer. I have heard some comments that the line pull of these cheap winches isn't as good claimed, though I haven't seen any measured results.

Ive used it 5 or 6 times on Sunday recovering stuck 4x4's and it was faultless.

I appreciate that as it was a little cheap, it will one day break. I think as long as you are prepared for it to die, probably when you least need it, they are good value for money.

I never go out on my own, and there are always others around to help. If you do venture out on your own, id spend the money and get a warn.
