300tdi clutch problems
« on: March 25, 2009, 09:32:46 »
I fitted a new clutch about 3 months ago.
Now all of a sudden, the pedal wont always come right up and the clutch seems very high on the travel of the pedal.
What is wrong?

A new clutch will bite higher. Has the clutch pedal helper spring come off?

Surley, a new clutch that is thicker would be lower down on the pedal stroke than the old worn one near the top of the pedal stroke.
The spring is still there and working well.

There's less freeplay in the slave cylinder with a new thicker clutch plate so it disengages sooner, therefore giving a higher bite.  Just replaced mine too.

Not more replacement parts Matt?

The money youve spent on repairs could have bought you a decent Pajero which never needs new parts :afro:

There's an adjustment for the pedal, it's two nuts tightened against each other on a thread. (Not a great explaination, I know )
I've found that they have come loose in the past and un wound, leaving a 'drooping' clutch pedal.
Just a thought :-k

I'd change both at the same time, as one will often fail soon after the other if you don't...
