td5 cold bottom rad hose

after changing thermost and doing assual checks,noticed bottom rad hose not getting hot.gauge is reading normal,water appears to be circulating back into expansion tank,heater works ok.any know at what temperture the stat opens?or has experienced similar ?

Make sure you've put the pipes on the stat right, it's marked pump on one of the Y shape connections.

Thats the way they work,
 hot water in through the top of radiator then cools down as it goes past the fan etc, then cold water returns to the engine via the bottom hose, only to be reheated by the engine then recooled by rad in a recirculating motion.

No mate I,ve got a 300tdi 130 and a 200tdi disco, but the principle is always the same for water cooled engines.
