Looks ok for the price.   Ariel does not look very long so dont expect to be getting long distances with it.   other than that it looks good.   shame it not a gutter mount then i would have got one for me mums camper while the family is off camping somewhere!

To be honest i would go for one of these sets http://www.thunderpole.co.uk/cb_radio_pack-starter.htm

I have one of those in that link, that complete setup and i also have the more expensive off roader one with the MC-8.

Plus they are CB specialists and have never heard anyone complain about their products.

I have the gutter mount on mine, and a mag mount on the other one, although that will be changing to gutter mount soon when the rangie arrives :D

The mini orbitor has a reasonable enough range for what its made for, i mean its not gonna get a signal from top of the country to bottom of the country but only had a bother with mine when the person who was following accidently switched his onto european instead of uk when he was trying to roll his disco lol

I bought my cb radio and exuipment from cb4x4. com or the link is here

they were extremely helpful on the phone and highly recomended.

I use a clamp on type mount for the ariel that clamps onto the roof bars of the disco and secures by a hand nut type thing. It is dead easy to take on and off and means I can store the ariel in the car and not somewhere where someones light fingers can get to it!

I folled a mate who had a mag mount and the number of times he got out to re stick it to the roof or back bumper, I thought I cant be bothered with that!

I have a long bendy (think its called sprinegr) type ariel. I did find as it twanged it has caused damage to the paint work on the roof so now put some insulation tape over the end and that has sorted that out.

Make sure whatever antenna you go for, it's flexible. They tend to get battered on overhanging trees when laning or at p&p sites. The springer type MuddyJames mentions are very forgiving with trees!

The choice of mount depends on how strong the area you mount it to is. If you have a strong mount on a weak piece of bodywork, the latter suffers!

As for head units, I found the 'auto squelch' function useful. Otherwise, I've never had any trouble with any unit I've used and they've all done what I needed them to do.

That would be me then...!!!!!! lol

I'm running a Team ME-4 from Thunderpole, I went with one of there started kits with the mini orbitor aerial. The range was ok for staying in contact with a group whilst laning and at P+P's but I've since changed to a longer aerial as I found that I was unable to keep in contact with a second group whist laning around Thetford due to the reduced range. Where I live it's dead flat so at a guess I would say with the mini aerial I could get around the 5-6 mile radius but with the longer one this has doubled. It's worth mentioning that no matter what set up you choose just make sure it's fitted correctly and you check your SWR.

Mag mounts can be ok, it's just a case of getting a good one. I ran a 7in mount with a springer aerial for ages and never had any problems with trees. When I came to remove the mount however it required fingers of steel to overcome the magnet!

I'll put a vote in for the Midland 98 Plus - I know a few people who use them, they're simple, solid radios for not a lot of outlay. Mine hasn't given any hassle in the two years or so since I fitted it. One tip for them, if you don't use the channel change buttons on the mic then it's relatively simple to remove the switches. Mine used to keep getting knocked against things and randomly changing channel.

congrats  another convert.

As for thread, quality mag mounts are fine and you can get some big fancy beasts but useless on real landrovers *cough* I mean useless on series and defenders.

Had a midland 98+ for at least three years now and it has been in the IIA which isn't the most hospitable of places for complex electronics, and it has performed faultlessly, The noisekiller does a good job and it gives a clear sound that you can hear and understand.
The disco courtesy of it's Previous owner left me another midland this time a 78 multi, Again it is clear and easy to use and does a good job.

Two mates down in Cornwall have midland rigs in their land rovers and can't fault them for the performance and quality. One did buy a moonrake minor and he regrets buying it. The squelch is rubbish and the speaker is rubbish you can't hear what the incoming speech is.

IMHO you get what you pay for buy a cheapy and get cheap quality, Spend a bit more and enjoy being able to talk to all and hear them as well.
