Hello all, I am placing this topic in the series forum as I understand that the Sherpa engine is reasonably popular (relatively speaking) to put in. I am the owner of a defender which had an engine which was burning a fair bit of oil. I decided to replace the engine and a scrap merchant said he had a tidy Rover engine available. I have now spent a good time putting this engine in and am starting to have trouble. I now know it is a Sherpa and many Land rover parts are not sufficient. When the engine was removed it seems to have been dropped which had caused some bending of the fuel lines from the pump to the injectors. In trying to repair them I broke one and had trouble replacing it. I did eventually find a diesel expert to make me one up (quite expensive). Now it is all back together I appear to have developed a fuel leak from the feed to the injector pipe to cylinder 3. Not an easy place to get to, to fix. Does anyone know of anyone I can speak to who specialises in these engines (2.5), and maybe someone who may be able to provide a replcement pump as I have been quoted £250-£300 to get mine reconditioned (not in my budget I'm afraid). I am also on the lookout for a new timing belt as all the suppliers around here just seem to want to give me a LR 2.5 n/a belt which is too long? It just seems to me that no-one around here seems to know much about this engine (worrying). Thanks,
