Hi Folks,

As some of you might know by now, Mike and I will be heading off to Morocco in July as part of the 2009 Sahara Rally, trying to get a decent tan and raise lots of money for the children's orphanage the rally supports. www.sahararally.org
These children's homes in Morocco are really poorly funded and by UK standards are of pretty low quality. Fundraising/sponsorship is pretty tough at the mo.
Your help & generosity here will really help us improve these nippers lives and hopefully provide them with a much brighter future.

Thankfully those very nice guys at X-eng have donated two pairs of there brand new X-Lite Azimuths for us to auction off for the charity

Please post your bids under here. The auction will close at midnight on Tuesday the 14th of April 2009.

There are two pairs of lights on offer, the auction will be for one pair, with the second pair available at the same final bid price to the winner of the first pair, should they wish to have them. If they do not, then the second highest bidder can have them at the same price as the highest bid, and so on until they are claimed.

The winner will be the top bid, to be paid directly to myself or Mike, via paypal or bacs.

Once the money is accounted for, Simon from X-eng will dispatch the lights for free (in the UK) to the winner.

This prize retails for over £70 a pair or £140 for both sets so please have a go and bid generously.

These X-Lites would would look really nice on your truck :D :D :D, Plus you can mount these anywhere without the need for a roll cage or roof rack. They are the first X-Lites to incorporate a flat mounting point :-k making fitting easy.

Not had mine long. I have the flood version of the azimuth, they seem only as bright as my cheapy 55w plastic square spots but with the benefit their beam is wide (i.e if I stand in front of truck I have to be in certain position to see full dazzle of my 55w beams, the x-lite flood is full bright standing in different positions). I presume if I had the spot version I would more easily see that they are brighter compared to the cheapy 55watt lamps because the same energy used to disperse the light in the flood version would now concentrated into a tighter beam. I have two engineering issues with the (poor?) design of the azimuth which I really shouldn't see in a 70odd quid lamp - but rather not go into it here and now.

Because I haven't questioned x-eng about issues which might be unfair or maybe I am wrong ...oh well...
The machining of the adjustable mount means that the hollow stainless fixing bolt doesn't sit flush no matter of position - this does not bode well with me as it prompts an additional tensile shear of an already torsion weakened fixing (it's hollow). Even in the event the design means it couldn't be machined to seat the bolt properly (which I doubt is case) then they should ideally supply a wedge washer to take up the gap. The instruction warn not to over torque (only needs a couple nm) because the bolt is hollow... fair enough, but this error would be the first reason why the bolt would break. (no I haven't broken mine).
Other thing is that the lamp connector pulls half off on assembly because it is so close to the threaded swivel pin that it gets pushed to one side. It doesn't come completely off so maintains an electrical contact - but it's not cool to see.
