Help Required
I have a v8 110 station wagon with a steering issues.
In a straight line on good road no probs but give it a bend and it seems to steer itself.
It is standard apart from 285/75/16 st s on modulars,heavy duty( but standard height) springs and shocks and a deflex kit.
Have adjusted the steering box which made it a bit better but still bad enough to generate a farmyard smell from the drivers seat now and again! :shock: :shock: :shock:
Have I missed anything????

It could be a few things, Panhard rod bushes, Steering track rod ends, UJ's on steering column, Radius arm bushes

Look inside the engine bay where the steering column comes down to the steering box. in that line there are two UJ's

also check the anti roll bar links. mine was doing the same and we found both of mine were shot  :doh:

Hi Guys
Many thanks for replies,shall check uj's and anti roll bar links tommorrow(leaking down here).
Had the balancing checked and ball joints are new.
Have noticed that even though the shocks and springs are standard seems to higher than other 110's Iv'e seen.Do you think springs and tyres would have upset the castor angles?

Have you looked at the A-Frame bushes? and the A-Frame ball joint?

I had this recently when the Landy went in the grooves the trucks make it was sliding around, a-frame bushes sorted it out.

as for the Steering UJ's I have just changed mine about 4 hours ago as the steering was not responding very well and was sloppy, the bottom UJ was shot, its a lot better now, you could also test your Steering damper, take one end off and see if it pushes out.

Checked tyre pressures? Too low will cause wander.

Support front end and get someone to swing on steering wheel while you observe, wriggle and fiddle with steering giblets. But if adjusting the steeringbox made some difference then maybe that is where the problem is.

The extra weight of the bigger tyres will make a difference but I think you are just experienceing wear and tear.  The Panhard rod would be favourite aty the front followed by worn out balljoints and possibly the swivel preloads too.  Does it go crazy if you hit a bump? that's called steering kickback and it happens worse when you increase the rotating mass of the wheels.  Soft or over hard bushes in the radius armas and panhard rod make it worse as do worn swivels.  Oddly though, adding weight like a set of Dan Bars to the drag links can counteract it.

Update!
Panard bushes are new ,steering damper definately on the way out so will replace that.
The a frame bushes and joint dont know,how do you tell ?
Have jacked the front up ,grabbed hold of top and bottom of tyre and tried to move it but seems ok .
The steering box adjustment is now flush with the locking nut,is that the limit of adjustment?

Have a crawl underneath, get in a good postion to view the A-frame bushes, then get someone to shake the back of the Landy side to side, you should be able to see if there is excess movement. P.S. Mind you're head :doh:
