my poor old series 3

after some much needed thought and some bodged attempts at repair, i have decided galv is the only way to go so now the strip down begins. within a couple of days its surprising how you can strip an old 88 to chassis and bulkhead rolling chassis.
two cutting blades and 4 drill bits later my girlfriend and myself have stripped her down (the landy that is). i hope that time and money do not run away, although they probably will. look out for posts as i may need some advice as we go along. hopefully pics will be posted soon if anyone interested

am i mad or plain stupid but i can't see the old girl stripped of parts and sold to highest bidder.

but some things will go essex v6 will be one of them, don't know what to replace with i ain't one for factory resto. maybe v8 or something landy based so i can do alrc rtv trials with local club? any opinions would be welcome.

Stick a 200 or 300 in there mate and drop some disc braked axles onto he leafs, not a hard job, just fiddly.

Maybe for someone who's good at fabrication it is just fiddly.  To someone with little fabrication experience it could be a nightmare.  :doh:

want something a little more standard/ cheaper to fit cost is everything. i was thinking 2.5 n/a easy to come by, how easy to fit? other wise 2.25 petrol or diesel. i am using new galv chassis and don't want to do any fabricating. plus i'm not a big fan of tdi power in series doesnt seem right, if i wanted 200tdi utility i would save time and money on a 90/110 but thanks anyhoo.

You need to move a chassis engine mount for the 2.5 NA.

If you're dropping in the 2.5 why not drop the 2.5td in, it's really not as bad as people make out, and you may get away with using the series engine mounts and brakets, if not someone should be able to weld the mounts on if can't weld, its a nice easy engine conversion aswell.

can weld but don't want to cut thu galv so 2.25 it will be don't like 2.5td as have had bad experiance with it before. 5 bearing diesel best when going 2.25? or good low milage 3 bearing sufficiant? seems to be alot of the 3 bearing about maybe this is best? if i was moving mounts i would stick with v6 3.0 love the power not the fuel economy!

Both 3 and 5 bearing engines are good.  The 5 bearing will be marginally longer lasting over the 3 bearing, as it has an additional two crank bearings to spread loads across and maintain oil pressure with.

cheers i think standard motor would be best for ease of maintenance, i know v6 setup is difficult weber carb a pig for newbie to setup never had it running quite right but awsome power, i suppose thats why my gbox is broke, 4 wheel spin on tarmac aint good! :lol:

A firend of mine has a scrap S3 that we're cutting up- the chassis is duffy but the engine seems OK. If you're interested it's in a village just north of Milton Keynes.
