Mines OK. I like the ability to listen to music on it...

It does everything that it does well....

two things :

Battery lasts a few days, but can be charged from any usb port - no need for itunes, just power. Ive charged mine from a ps3 before.

Screen - scratch proof is it bollo (you get the idea). Mine is absolutely mullared.

Other than that its OK.

If you charge it every day, the battery will tell you it's lower than it actually is.  I use mine fairly heavily and get at least 2 days out of it, but never more than 3.

You need to sort out the syncing part.  It should just be plug and play providing you have iTunes installed.  I've never had any problems at all with mine, but then I use a Mac, so things tend to work better anyway :)  Once it syncs with iTunes, iTunes will back it all up automatically, and you have 2 copies of all your music as well.  How did you get it activated without syncing?  You never used to be able to make the phone work if syncing didn't work.

I have the original 8GB iPhone 2.5G and it's very scratch-resistant.  Only one tiny scratch on the screen.  The back is fine too.  Get a screen protector sheet if you are concerned (a couple of quid, just a thin film that goes over the screen).

Apps worth having include:  Shazam, Google Earth, Virtual Pool, Cro-Magnon Rallye, Wikipanion IMHO.

I have had various Palm PDA devices for years and loved them, never liked Windows Mobile, Had a Nokia 95 and diddt really like it, Had a Blackberry storm and sent it back after 14days. Now I have an iPhone and love it becuase. As I work away from home and stay in a hotel every other week I really use it.

Large screen makes it propely usable for various jobs so I dont turn on my PC as much when not working
Propper IMAP email support on multilpe accounts with folders syced is very useful (Black Berry strom wont do folders unless you have enterprise version)
16BG storage space is fine
Wireless becomes useful when you can use the phone in place of a laptop (BBC iplayer in bed for example)
The Phone bit is very usable the interface is great especially favourites, using keypad and visual vociemail.
There are a lot of very good Aplications from FREE in the App Store
Mine lives in a ruggedized case (see my post about the Otterbox)
I sold my PSP for £75 and Nokia 95 £95 as the iPhone made them redundant
Its a iPod too, my old ipod was knackered and did nto do video.

Downsides
The camera is very poor. Im not a pixel junkie but its a fixed focus wiht no flash, no good for close up shots e.g. pages of text. Useless in low light and takign pictures of anything moving is a waste of time as its slow (my daughter wont sit still). This is a real pain as teh camera on my Nopkia 95 was perfect.
Cut and Paste, we need OS3.0 later this year
Push Notification, again will be there in OS 3.0
You cant sync with your PC over Bluetooth (which is a bit of a pain and a bit of a poor show IMHO)

Favourite Aps

iPlayer (well its a shortcut really)
You can watch iPlayer on the phone, but only via wifi.

Evernote+Evernote web service (Free)

Make Text, photo or voice notes on your PC or Iphone, Sync over the web. Ideal way to carry round small nuggets of info. You can clip stuff straight of the web to evernote on your PC

Apigo TODO + Todolede Web sevice (Paid Ap, Free Service)
This is the BEST to-do list on the iPHone and the Todoldeo web service puts it onto a google desktop, web page or outlook task list. I run my life with this to do list like I used to with my old Palm PDA.

Tioti TV (Paid)
A TV guide free guide after you buy the ap. Very good interface and can work with sky+ remote record

eBay (free)
If you use eBay its ideal. Check the status of buying/selling and search etc. easier than using Safari Browser

Multi Convert (free)
Converts things like weight, area, speed etc, The most comprehensive one there is.

Touch Calc (free)
Scientific calculater with HEx Pi etc

mSecure (paid I think)
Encrypted store for passwords, pins etc. Im going to do a pen test on this before I put anythign of real value in it, but ideal for forum passwords etc.

Free RSS (free)
a Free RSS feed reader. Nice interface and the way I keep up with news whne bored on the train etc.

Wolfenstien 3d (paid)
Yes wolfenstien and apparantly Doom is on the way!!!!!!!

Photo Note. paid+free eval

I use this at auctions to take a photo of teh item and record its lot number. Makes a mini catalogue on my phone.

So you could say im a bit of a fan.

I tour all the time, they have just brought out SKYPE for the Iphone and it works brilliantly so now I can phone home when abroad (as long as there is WiFi) and not come home to a £500.00 phone bill !!!!

well iv been using it for a couple of days now and im very pleased, batterys lasting now, think i just played with it too much to start with. it did sync with the computer(using the latest version of ituneswhich took 8hrs to download ) it just didnt download my music, and havent got around to pluging it in since then as iv been using the wall charger, sure ill work it out next time.
ive downloaded about 20 free apps including facebook, a spanish translator, the inclonimter, games, googleearth, Absoulute radio and a roman numeral translator. i spent £20 on a three part reinforced leather case and then put that in a decent makita phone case.
the only bad part is that you cant answer the phone as quickly as you could my old flip phone if youve left it on the other side of a garden while digging :D

Two things:
1) I'm in the middle of coding an iPhone application to do something similar right now.
2) Do you do pen tests in a professional capacity?

I'm already using SplashID to do the same - it syncs with their desktop client as well.  Is there space for many more of these password storage apps?!

Re pen tests, Im not that clever, im just going to do a network log when it runs to make sure its not "phoning home" with my data (mind you it could on the xth of each month etc). A bit paranoid but as I like playing with wireshark so it wont take long even if it is probably pointless!

Re developing aps, id say carry on as long as you dont expect it to make you rich as PW type apps are a bit niche (unlike fart aps) but as the Ap store model seems good for independant developers then why not (as long as you can pay your mortgage elsewhere)

It doesn't matter (to me) that there are other similar apps.  It's an exercise in using xCode for me.  Plus, I have a unique idea for storing the data.   ;)

I won't be making any money from it, it'll be offered for free.

iPhone ringtones were never easy to implement for free, and can't be done from inphone, theres plenty of guides on the internet though and you can edit the part of the track you want as the ringtone

http://www.intomobile.com/2008/10/07/iphone-ringtones-create-free-iphone-ringtones-using-itunes-8.html seeems a good place to start

Hope it helps
