Nice one Andy

I'm just in the process of getting mine sorted. Had the juddery brakes sorted with new discs & pads - then it's shortly off into the garage for a full service including new oils in the engine, gearbox, transfer case & diffs.

I've been looking ahead to off-road mods too.

Some kind soul posted up this great comparison of the different lift heights on the Jeep forum   http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=536929&page=29   - scroll down to gatorayde's post !!

From this, as I want my Jeep to still look good on the road as a cruiser but have some decent off-road capability, I reckon I'm going to go with the 2" lift. I haven't decided on tyres yet, but I'm amazed how different brands really do look very different in the way they fill the arches !

The OME lift looks to be the one to go for. Then I'll need some underbody protection & recovery points.

Is there a particular specialist company I could approach for help anywhere near Notts/Derbys ?

@ Popoff - how do you find your Jeep with the 2" lift & the Coopers ? What's it like on the road ...... and off ?     :)   And did you do the lift yourself ? Also have you done any more mods apart from the lift, tyres & winch ?

Can't wait for the weekend again so I can get out on the road ........ that V8 !!!

Hi mate, I looked for ages before getting this one, really wanted the Overland for its extra 30bhp over the std V8 and this was the best one I could find, the Overland also has the std rock rails and under body protection. ;)

I have fitted everything myself and I’m no mechanic! The 2” lift OME springs are the “heavy duty”  ones (helps with the weight of the winch) and also had the OME shocks, together giving a firm ride with little roll on the twisty bits, (perhaps a little stiff off road) so well happy with the ride, quite easy to fit too. ;)

I have also fitted new front upper and lower control arms along with new rear ones, so now has all new bushes to keep every thing nice and tight, then to take the slight play out of the steering changed the track rod ends, the drag link ends, then the ball joints, so the whole front end has been replaced.

I got the winch mount from TBR  http://www.tbruk.com/  cutting and fitting the bumper around the winch was “fun” but it now looks the part.

The Cooper STT’s are very good,  went up a size to 245/70 17 so had to trim the wheel arches a bit also had TBR wheel spacers fitted to set it off,

Other bits I’ve fitted; Tow bar, new rear Brake callipers, new Battery, plugs filters oils etc, all in the last 8 months so has kept me busy, ;) and all to get a perfectly good Jeep to look and be capable of what I wanted!  Trouble is now its finished I want to play with something new, thinking of a new Wrangler or Defender poss next Year!  :-k :?

Sorry about the long post  but in summery with the 2" lift and the bigger STT's I now have about  3" extra clearence, better ride, less roll and dont get stuck, I'm well happy

all cool stuff.
Mines fitted with the HO version too !
Looking at that package I mentioned earlier pretty much contains all the bits aside form protection Im after.
Im fitting the Coopers but the AT's not the STT's and going 245 70 instead of the standrad 235/65's
the running boards will get sold( there btrand new fitted by previous owner!) and replacing with the sliders too.
Not going too extreme with this, just to a good g laning standard and retaining its "noramility" at the same time!

All good fun!

Unusual to have the “High Output” (HO) version in a Ltd, must have been a special order, as only fitted to the Overland model, nice though with 255bhp and 314lb ft of torqe, (Std V8 220bhp & 291lb ft) only downside is the price of the special spark plugs!

Only thing with the lift and bigger and much heavier STT’s is they blunt the performance knock the mpg by about 3/4mpg! And the steering is prone to pull with the road camber

yep I know!
Apparently it came into being in 2002 but WAS fitted to some 2001 Ltds as a top end option prior to them fitting it in the overland.
I checked the chassis number out with Jeep uk and they confirmed this so feel quite lucky as I didntg know there was a HO version.
I saw the badge , then the lettering on the throttle housing and got it confirmed!

I think with the lift, just AT's and some protection, i should keep a level of integrity but ive gone from 375 to a tank on a long run to having fun and doing half a tank in 50 miles LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very interesting stuff

So the Overland has rock rails & underbody protection as standard ? I didn't know that ! What does the u/p consist of ?

You know Popoff I might just wait 'til you sell yours & buy that off you rather than spending my money on doing mine !!

It's interesting hearing what people do to their Jeeps & what the results are !!

Does the steering pull much with the road camber ? Mine does that just a bit with standard suspension & tyres

And in hindsight, would you have gone with a softer shock on the rear ?

Like Andy - I want to retain the integrity of my Jeep as a road cruiser, but capable enough to see me on green lanes & the odd p & p

Hence the reason Im going for AT's not MT's and the rockyroad package. It has everything you need really.

at's unless your planning on p&p sites. mt's are great, but 99% of green lanes in the uk dont need them.

at's are also far better in snow and sand then mt's, and just as capable on rock due to the increased surface area.

Don't get me wrong, mt's have a place (hence the simex at the bottom of the garden), but IMO at's are best for general use.

as another note, ive seen the quick disconnect for the front sway bar, what about the back?
I dont want to remove the back for the sake of laning a couple of times a month so can you do the quick disconnects on the back too?

The lanes we do often need M/T, often after heavy rain. Not just to get through them, but also you will not need to damage them by spinning AT's. What you probably don't need is really aggressive muds.

A few of us have recently got Maxxis Buckshot muds, excellent off road and on road (used for lanes and P&P sites) on road very good quite at 70mph. Good value as well.

Rear disconnents... most people just remove the rear sway bar, try it and see if you feel you need it back on again. I have removed both rear bars from my Jeeps with front disconnects on the Wrangler but not the Cherokee, you'll prob be fine leaving them on IMO for lanes.

Hope all this helps, Maf

Im very happy with it with the h/d springs and shock so would fit them again,  :D

the pulling to the left has got a bit worse after the lift and m/t's, depending on the road, just done 260 motorway and A road miles (used a full tank) and dident notice, so not a big problem, but on a B road with a bigger camber it can be quite noticable

the Copper STT Mud's are very good on the road, you can hear them but not too much, also grip far better than you would think :P

Re fitting M/T's or A/T's, yes the a/t would be better for everyday driving, and better for Sand, but as I say I am very happy with the m/t's and they just look the Dog's

Oh, and always open to offers mate,  have to be a good one though, have spent a small fortune

The main reason Jeep pull to the left is that they are designed to drive on the right hand side of the road.

The wheel base on the lefthand side is slightly less than on the right - so that it drives straight when on a camber on the right hand side of the road.

Jeep just do not change this for righthand drive cars

So if you drive them upside down they will pull to the right then..... :afro:

No - you need to drive them backwards.
