I've done 200 odd transactions on eBay and only had
one none paying bidder... Guess I've just been lucky. :D

I think there’s been an increase in hijacked accounts which may contribute to it. I had three emails last weak all claiming that I had broken eBay’s user agreement and to signin by clicking a link in the email. Looks genuine till you look at the full email header. There getting sneakier with these emails now

Downloading the eBay toolbar will stop you getting caught out
by spoof sites asking for you account details etc etc..

Anyone who wants to give it a try can find it here:
http://pages.ebay.co.uk/ebay_toolbar/
One good thing I like about it is the reminder it gives you when
an item your watching is coming to an end... Very handy.

I've also been getting a lot of emails reported to be from PayPal only the registered trademark thingy is missing off the PayPal logo.
The emails tell me that there has been a problem with my account and to stop the account being suspended I have to log in using the link at the bottom of the page.
It looks like a PayPal link but if you "mouse-over" the link it's always a site in Germany or Russia. They seem to change the site address every week or so and every new email I get with a new link I send to PayPal. O:)
I know the have been warnings about these before but here's a copy of the email incase you've not seen it (PayPal logo not included and link just copied so try & use it!!):

I've had that one, about an hour after I rcovered my acccount from having been hijacked, they must think we're all stupid.
Mind, the first thing I knew about my account being hijacked was when I got e-mails asking about a car I was selling, because my account says I'm in the uk and the car was in the USA, then I got the notification that my e-bay account had a new e-mail address so it had just happened. I e-mailed a few people back to the effect that to the best of my knowledge the car was on the driveway of the curent owner and would be untill shortly before it was due to be paid for, if you know what I mean. I have to say E-bay didn't mess about and had it sorted within the hour.
If you're selling stuff though I've taken to using find-it, I spent about $40 trying to sell stuff on e-bay and people want it for nothing, I managed to sell an engine for my reserve of £99. I've already had more luck on find-it.

I'd not only recommend the ebay toolbar mentioned above - you can use it to protect your PayPal stuff too - I'd commend the security team at ebay too.
I while back I was getting a phising email every other day so I contacted the ebay security centre. They came back and I logged on to their live fix-it thingy (non-IT-tekkie that's me  ) and they led me through it.
Only trouble was, I forgot I'd changed my loggin password as a result of this and ended up cursing 'cos I couldn't access my account. Until I remembered that is...
As for non-payers; I've not got round to selling yet, but can't understand why people don't pay straight away. I always do, after all, I want to buy the b****y thing.
Only time I've not paid was when I won an item that I realised was not what I thought; by the time the seller got back to me, the auction was closed. Instead of being awkward, he thanked me for prompt contact, sold it to the next bidder and the issue was closed. I suppose he was fine because, once I'd realised my mistake, I offered to pay for it anyway - my fault so my problem.
I read things more closely now

My only bad experience was with a seller.
Just before Christmas I bid & won two auctions for boxset DVDs but, and I don't know what it was, something just didn't feel right so I ran a Google search on the sellers address and it came back as a mail forwarding company in London. :-k
I sent a nicely worded email to the seller saying I had found this and because of problems in the past I would like personal information to clarify who they were before sending any money.
All I got back was a nasty email telling me that they would not supply any info, I had bid and there for WILL pay or negative feedback would be left leading to my account being suspended????? :?
So I sent all the details & emails to eBay and within 2 hours the sellers account had been suspended and the other 50+ auctions they had were withdrawn. =D>
I've always wondered how many people did send money though because they had been registered for about 2 weeks.

The only problem I've had so far is with an item I bid on, as a working (but untested) item, and then noticed that the seller had previously bought it as an unworking item. Therefore he was trying to sell something which was almost certainly broken as something which was almost certainly not broken.
I said his description was misleading, he said it wasn't.
You end up in a bit of a stalemate - if I were to have given him negative feedback, he'd have done the same to me. It's a flaw in the system.
In the end I paid his listing fees as a goodwill gesture (after all, I had bid without checking first), and he presumably sold it to some other mug.
I'm happy to sell on eBay, but very wary about buying. Better to use it as a way of contacting a company which can help you, then go and visit them.
