you can get a card for your pc with a vhf input. it will record the vhs video into avi file using somthink like wintv. you can then drag the avi file to nero and burn dvds. I think nowdays you can get a usb vhf input divice to save the hasle of opening your pc.

I use firewire cable "1394" and import into windows movie player in vista
Connect vhs to camcorder. camcorder to computer via firewire.

I have a hi 8 digital camcorder not sure but i think that the camcorder needs to be digital.

before you buy anything check to see that your computer doesn't already have a firewire plug. mine came with it from dell. there are also different size firewire plugs. mine is similar to a mini usb and has 1394 written above it. if this is the case vista already has movie maker which is sufficient to download the video. the only thing youll need is a connecting lead.

do you have a digital camcorder if not may be able to pick one on ebay pretty cheap.
then record on camcorder from vhs tape.
then firewire cable and firewire imput to computer if you dont have one
vista's standard movie maker program can convert from camcorder to dvd fairly easy.

cheaper option than 178
