Fast food Delivery ... I wonder

I have noticed lately a proliferation of places (from Pizza Hut to the local Chinese / Indian takeaways ) offering a delivery service.That's very nice when you can't be bothered to walk or drive there yourself.
BUT...
I was wondering how many of these usually young drivers in "starter cars" actually hold proper insurance to use their own vehicles for this ?
The usual "social domestic & pleasure" and "driving to/from a permanent place of work"  wouldn't cover it, so have they all forked out extra on top of their already extravagent insurance costs ?
If not, surely their employers are as guilty as they are for encouraging them to earn a few quid by using their own cars as delivery vehicles....
It would be interesting to see if any of their insurance companies would pay out in an accident. I reckon the claimant(s) would be onto a loser !
 It was bad enough trying  to dodge the pizza boy as he wobbled along on his bright red moped with L plates fluttering in the breeze, but at least you knew who he was.

 I ain't sure exactly who I need to avoid these days as he/she scoots around the streets with red hot food hidden on the passenger seat !
Maybe the steamed up windows is a clue ?

Very good point - the employer is responsible for the safety of his employees, and their actions whilst at work.

Most employers whose employees use their own cars insist on seeing not only the drivers' licences but also their insurance certificates. If it all goes wrong, it's the employer who is likely to carry the can under Health and Safety rules.

Might be worth having a word with your local traffic department

As one of the aforementioned people, i can safely say that the likes of pizza hut and domino's require you to have business insurance.

Your foreign places generally arent even bothered if you have a licence, let alone the correct insurance, however there was a group of us who were doing it very regularly and we were all insured correctly etc............

I think its odd they dont get the insurance, only costs about £10 a year extra for the business use!

As far as Im aware a lot of delivery drivers are self employed so the employer forgoes the responsibility.

I occasionally have reason to use our " posh " car for work and whiz off around the country, my insures said 5 times a year Im covered and told me where the small print was, god knows how they keep track though  :lol:

I once applied for a job as a meter reader, I was told I had got the job, I got measured for the uniform etc. Then and only then did they tell me I was expected to use my own vehicle, and I would have to prove I had the business use insurance..
It was hard enough getting social domestic pleasure insurance for a heavily modified 110, I can just imagine the prob  :-k I would have had trying to change it over to business use as well.
 Job offer declined.

Try the NFU as get get covered for work in my policy automatically and they know that if i'm using it for work and get a shout i don't hank about if you get my drift. Mind they won't let me use blues and twos on the road but i have another company that will.

A couple of weeks ago I picked a Pizza up in the XKR from one of the local take-aways, & one of the chaps behind the counter came out almost begging me to "boot it"as I drove off.

So, a quick 'prod' in 'sport-mode', made him happy, & got me a fee pizza on my next visit :D
