diy car alarm that will call you (help)
« on: April 20, 2009, 05:00:15 »

alright guys. after recently having my disco broken into and guted and just reeding some of the posts about stolen vheicles I have dicided to try and combat this by comeing up with this little gadget that is just an old nokia fone. I plan to instal this in my car and hard wire an old car nokia charger so it will always have power, just having a few problems.

striped down an old nokia 3510 but any old nokia will do I suspect

solder some wires on the contacs for the call/ok buton and cut away the ruber buton

now if you dile your number and touch the wires it will call you!

questions?

how to wire it to something that will make it call. ignition, interior light ??

how to disarm it?

thanks

Can you not connect it to a relay along side your siren? When your siren goes off, it will close the loop and call. As soon as someone gains access, your alarm goes off, and your phone rings!

Hello,

interesting project, you can buy sms things that would do want you want for not a lot, but if you have the spares then why not play.

I agree that to set it off use a car alarm siren with a relay if you have one, if not then you could put a hidden switch outside the car that turns it on/off (cuts the car battery feed) and uses the interior light as you say.
To Disarm wither have it on a siren so it does not need to disarm or use a hidden switch

An idea to improve is to use a speed dial so that you dont have to pre enter the number, the relay would stay closed and effectively "hold down" the 1 key etc until the relay is deactivated.

Also you can subscribe to any service that will send you the cell your phone is in so you could "track" you car, again only a bit of fun.see

http://www.followus.co.uk/home.html  this is just the first I found.

Im assuming you will wire it up so the phone charges (or powers (no battery) off the car, can you get an old hands free kit so you can "hear" the toe-rags discussing stuff, you may find that you find out useful info.

I know with some pay as you go companies you need tomake 1 phone call from the phone every few months to keep it active so you nwould need to remember to activiate the alarm and let it ring you and you pick the phone up then put it down again to save you money.

Great idea though and will watch with interest.

In my caravan I have a hidden phone on charge 24/7 and I have signed up to a web site that you pay for credits and so you can see which mast the phone is coming from. Ok the mast is a very big area but if the vehicle is moving along then you can see which masts it is going through and plot a route if it is on a motorway for example. it would be 2 uses from your hidden phone then.  ;)

Youll need a relay to switch it, then come off any 12volt source that switch's the relay you could then put an isolating switch in line to turn it off or on.

I would go for a connection to your interior light, or you could get a motion sensor to trigger it; good idea tho.

Good luck hope to read soon you got it working.

You could always add another alarm door sensor switch or interior light switch . Id guess they are less than £1.

They make contact when the door is opened so would tirgger for a while when someone got in. This would work well wth my speed dial ida as the door would be open for a short duration like a button hold for 1 sec. May be tricky to do for all doors so the interior light+relay is still a good bet.

but then surely everytime you open the door the phone will call you, even if your getting out the vehicle? Or have I missed something here?

Muddyjames is right :-k

But then all you have to do is reject the call

Unless you go remote/wireles isolator, but then your not keeping it simple & cheap, glowplug circuit could be used.

so....you could then have a couple wires coming from the vibration ring tone to a det, when your phone calls you that it being stolen you call it back to trigger the rigged up shotgun cartridge in the steering column :police:

what you could do is get a cheap alarm system from a motorfactor and instead of the alarm relay triggering the siren/horn it triggers your phone (or both), that way you have got the cheapy fob arm/disarm timer delay etc.

So if someone dials the wrong number(your mobile) while you are driving it. ouch

You would need to put the on/off switch (as in hidden outside the car) eiter to switch after the relay or (the phone wires) or before it (the interior light output)

The only problem with this project is that as soon as you buy any special bits (other than 99p switches) you would buy a propper pager/kit/ting.

Still worth pressing on if you have bits lying around at home. (or buy something from the car boot and caniblaise it)
