Irritating squeal..
« on: May 05, 2009, 13:32:50 »
Hi, I had an annoying squeal coming from under the bonnet.  :-k I have changed the aux belt, belt tensioner, tried the 1p coin trick, and still the noise was there. I tracked it down to the alternator bearing which was screeching on reving and driving. So i fitted a brand new alternator. this worked for about a 3 days. Now the screeching is back  :-k any ideas :-k.
Has anyone had the same problem??

Cheers
Kev

Not wishing to be overly pessimistic but my first port of call would be the water pump  [-o<

check the pulley on the power steering pump, mine started to move out as the pump was knackered causing the belt to squeal

Now sorted   After all the hassle trying to pin it down, it was the new drive belt .. Apparently there are 2 types of belt for the 300tdi.
Up to engine number 16L25165 use ERR3287
After that number use the slightly longer one ERR5911.

Fitted and sorted....piece at last
