200tdi engine swap/rebuild
« on: May 05, 2009, 15:19:18 »
I have found a 200tdi defender for sale and it needs at bottom end rebuild.
I have a good Disco 200 engine and was thinking I could try and build a defender engine using the Disco block and head.

Does anyone know if the block and heads are the same or will i need to modify them to take the defender parts.

I don't really want to just fit the disco engine because I will need to purchase all the conversion bits and its also worth less after.

Nope you'll be fine mate, just use your good block and head, then drop the defender manifolds on and you're away.

Seriously mate, the 200 tdi is a great engine to fiddle around with, all parts are available readily and fairly cheaply and once you start the job and get stuck, a quick post on the t'interweb and you'll have an aswer quick enough as lots of people have rebuilt the same engine.

Go on, have a go!

Thanks for you help everyone.

I am not new to playing with engines but I was not sure if the two could be swapped over.
