Hi all.

During a recent trip to morocco numerous engine faults occured which completely ruined the holiday.

The main one being a major overheating which blew the head gasket and warped the head.  This was fixed but a few hundred miles later one of the rocker assembly studs 'pulled' out of the head.  This was retapped but on the return drive through sSpain another one has gone.  It is obvious that the head has become 'soft'.

I originally planned to replace the head with a Turner gas flowed jobbie.  But I am now considering a full recon engine.  This is the second major overheat that this engine has suffered.  On the first occasion at leat one piston was replaced plus lots of other inner 'bits'.  It has done 24K since then.

This means that on two occasions the engine has been running (albeit for a short time) with 'cooked' oil amongst other things.

So; the question is this; where can I get a decent recon 300 Tdi fitted.

Turner Engineering have an excellent reputation and an engine for them is 2k plus I would have to pay for fitting (I work away so I just don't have the time to do it myself :'()
There is a guy (landy ltd) that advertises on ebay.  He quotes £995 for the engine and about another £350-400 for fitting.  His pictures look good and I have seen one recommendation for his work on another forum). But I will have to get the car rigt across the country.  He also offers a 12 month unlimited mileage warranty on the engine and fitting.
This company; http://www.pegasus-engines.co.uk/ are quite local to me and quote £1750 + VAT and can arrange collection.  These offer a 12 month warranty (being closer means a lot as well).

I dont want to just go for cheapness but I also want to keep the bill as low as possible for an acceptable unit.

Does anyone have any experience of Landy Ltd of the firm in Colchester?
Do you have any other recommendations?

All info greatly appreciated.

Ralph

I am quite happy to get the car virtually anywhere for the right job.
