engine doesn't run, just turnsover - fuel starvation?

I assume it's a diesel ?

Get your self a sqeezy bottle with a bit of tube on it, remove the bleed screw from the fuel filter, fill the filter up with diesel so it runs out, take your time it will fill up slowly. Once it's full, put the bleed screw back in and crank it, should start and then the pump should fill it back up again. It will cough and splutter for a bit but once the fuel gets going should bleed itself.

i see
was it running before u changed the lift pump ?
if its run the filter out of diesel then u will need to bleed it
make sure the filter is full of fuel , then undo the injector pipes , crank the motor untill fuel comes out and do each one up when it does
it will splutter into life

There is a simple option:

On the fuel filter housing there is a bleed screw. Loosen it.

Now pump the little hand lever on the side of the lift pump. This will fill the fuel filter with diesel by operating the lift pump manually. When diesel comes out, tighten the bleed screw.

The engine should now start  :D
