Any tips on spraying a land rover?
« on: May 27, 2009, 23:41:21 »
I have been sanding the 110 for months and its finally getting there.  I have bought a litre of etch primer and a litre of activating thinners.  I will also be buying the synthetic type (none 2 pack) paint.  I have always brushed it on but fancy spraying one for once.  Just after some tips on the general process.  I have scrounged a small compressor and HVLP gun.

So..  when I etch it I am told I need dusty thin coats.  I assume I don't rub down in between coats?
If I am going to use a high build/filler primer after the etch primer do I need to sand this between coats?  If so what grade...
The top coat polyurethane (god I wish I could spell....) synthetic stuff I assume goes on in several coats but again how much rubbing down do I need between coats.  Also, how much time to dry between coats?

I know someone will reply and say as I haven't a clue use a paintshop!  That's not an option, just want a semi respectable job (quite prepared to cover crap bits with stickers etc) that I'm not that bothered about scratching...

Any tips?

Cheers,

Mike

my mate has just done his 90,he was gonna use cellulose top coat but he was told it would give a c**p finish so he used etch primer (rubbed down flat between coats)and then 3 coats of 2 pack topcoat (you dont need laquer)he sprayed it with a filter cartridge mask on in his garage and it came up fantastic
