V8 Missfire - Help needed..
« on: May 30, 2009, 23:20:54 »
I know it's a bit like finding a needle in a haystack, but any advice on where and how to start looking would be gratefully appreciated. It's a 2001 Disco auto (fitted with LPG) Missfires just the same when running on LPG or petrol.

Thanks.

I've got the same problem, so far I've checked plugs, ht leads, dizzy, rotor arm, coil.  Am now onto looking for air leaks in the vac hoses  The vac advance pipe was split so I've replaced that (starts better now) but not having any real joy so far.

Check the leads are not arcin on to the engine or the wires going to the coil and dizzy are not doing this. I had this and you can hear it clickin and you wil see it in the dark.

Get it running on petrol first.

Fit decent plugs and leads, close the gaps up to 27 though for LPG

Be careful of dodgy dizzy cap and arms

check the conmpression and the camshaft, a worn cam will make a lumpy idle
