Drove the Trooper up to the local trails to go biking today.

Tried to attach my front wheel when I got there & couldn't fit the disk through the brake shoes ... it's been so hot that the hydraulic fluid had expanded and was causing the brake to be closed.

Couldn't believe it ... managed to get round half the trail before giving up cause of the permanent squeal from the front wheel (kind of like when your handbrake's been left on).

Last time it was adjusted was autumn 2 years ago ... we haven't had any sun since then so it's always been okay?!?

Sounds like the piston is stuck or caliper sliders need a re grease.

This sort of heat shouldnt affect a cars braking system at all.

Such crap weather up here!!

I mean who wants to drink real ale all afternoon whilst tending to the bbq and then finishing off the night with 3 litres of a nice zinfandel followed by half a ton of Jim Beam!

So as you can tell, this weather has been a total nightmare :-p lol

I was at cwm carn the other day and it was warm enough there to make my hydraulic brakes boil on the way down..... crazy business   :doh: :twisted:
Depending on the bike, id recomend the avid code 2009 brakes, my mates didnt boil, everyone elses hayes 9s did!

It's a Hope XC4 - open system so it copes well with expansion due to heating of the disk with braking.

I can normally push them apart and then they auto-adjust back to a reasonable point with the first couple of pulls but this time they were practically closed.

I can't recall it being this warm since I last topped up the fluid.

Didn't have a suitable spanner with me to open up the reservoir either :(

Remember that you should change your brake fluid every few years as it absorbs moisture form the air and becomes more prone to boiling.

I change mine every 2 years  in the Elise.

Its somethign that a lot of people dont think about.

Mine that boiled had been in there 3 days  :twisted:  I was having to brake so late and hard that it made my 9" rotors glow orange  8-[

Seriously tho i got sun burnt feet years ago, when i feel asleep in the car with my feet outa the window in France, not nice, could hardly walk for days.

Sunny weather

the negatives:

1) Very difficult to sleep when on night shifts, as the sun swings round, heats the bedroom and disrupts sleep.

2) Good weather means that my 'customers' drink more than the usual amount of Stella Actatwat and White Lightning cider and causes problems, e.g a Monday night shift has included drunk parties going until 6.30am and resulted in arrests for public order and drink/drive offences. :roll:

3) A very brown right arm and a white left arm, due to driving the Blue Light Taxi in the lovely weather. Otherwise known as Response Car Tan

4) Seeing the lovely ladies out enjoying the sun; unfortunately they are outnumbered by the fat old whales walking around in short skirts and crop tops. A sight that is likely to induce projectile vomitting :->

5) Increased calls to car parks due to uncaring morons leaving animals in vehicles with no ventilation or water.

6) Waiting for the call to attend a prang where a biker wearing only a T-shirt and shorts has slid down the road :->


The positives:

1) Seeing the countryside in all it's glory.

2) A general feeling of well being.

3) Sitting outside a country pub, in the beer garden, with a nice ale!

4) Seeing the swallows back, nesting on the house.

5) Working on the Disco, without freezing to death!

And I'm sat in a stuffy university class room doing my final exams this week. The best weather we have had for fishing in ages, and I'm stuck in a class room. I feel like crying lol.
