Dim-Dip relay - where? What's it like?
« on: June 13, 2009, 16:45:09 »
Further to my earlier post (headlights not working), can anyone give me a location for the dim-dip relay on a Disco 300, '96?

The Haynes book says it's on a bracket behind the passenger side fascia but what does it look like (and where, exactly)?

All help (and any photos) would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Rob

If it's like the one on a 200tdi it is a black box approx 2"x 5" and has alloy fins onto it to assist cooling, and i think one connector with approx. 10 wires going to it.

hope this helps

Its on the bulkhead in the engine compartment - between the washer bottle and the engine, small gold coloured resistor mounted on a black metal plate near to where the sound deadening mat starts on the passenger side - not in the cab.

Well it is on my '96 300 TDi anyways............

AFAIK that's just the resistor. There's a relay somewhere else too.

Hi All

Just to share... got a bit of advice from another forum, but it seems a devilishly simple thing when you think about it...

With the engine running (ie in same scenario as when the fault happens...), get 13 year old daughter to operate the switch whilst you grovel around in the passenger footwell feeling for the click as the relay cuts in.

Bingo!

Actually, rather than , I think I need  as that would have saved me many frustrating hours yesterday.... note to self, things don't fix themselves if you simply take more bits off...
