instant gasket- how do i get rid of it?
« on: June 20, 2009, 20:45:56 »
Hi All,
Following the discovery that the chassis is rotten as a pear, I've moved onto the engine- The new radiator fitted a treat, shame I've had to take it all back out again due to a bust water pump- it looks like the seal around the shaft is gone. I have a shiny new pump but have another problem- the whole engine seems glued together with red liquid gasket instead of proper gaskets- all the pumps studs areand bolts are out, and it still won't shift. Any ideas what to do? Will brute force work or will I just end up damaging something important?

cheers

it has a locate lobe so just hit it with a mallet until it breaks free!

Thanks! It's now off :)

The mallet wasn't necessary, WD40 and some judicious swearing got it to part company with both the engine and my knuckles :)
