Top 10 least green vehicles published
« on: June 22, 2009, 13:17:34 »
The Environmental Transport Association have published a list of most and least 'green' vehicles. The top ten least can be found here http://www.eta.co.uk/car_buyers_guide/ten_worst

Interesting that not one is a 4x4.

And the ten best????

This year the Car Buyer’s Guide has ranked the following cars as the top 10 overall:

Honda New Insight
Toyota iQ
Toyota Yaris
Nissan Pixo
Suzuki Alto
Honda Civic Hybrid
Ford New Fiesta
Toyota Auris
Mazda Mazda2
Toyota Prius

So the supposed saviour of the planet is only number 10!!!

But also regarding the "worst" 10, how many of them are actually on the road??? They are such high end cars that there cannot be that many running the roads of the world!

load of tosh this environmental bit anyway, they should be looking at "whole life cycle" and not fuel consumption!!
I HAVE THE BODY OF A GOD

shame its Budda!!

You'll notice their tag line is 'Your green piece of mind'. That's all it is really...... people having their conscience clear because they drive an 'officially' green car even though we know better.

I'll wager that you take any one of the top ten list and it will produce more emmisions in a year than most of the worst 10. Simply because the cars in the worst list hardly do any mileage. I know someone who sells exotic cars and if a 2 year old Murcielago has done more than 1000 miles it's concidered high mileage

Petty these don't for some reason take into account manufacturing C02 levels. the story is very different then.

My stance is "There are no green products, only greener patters of usage"

e.g a landrover owned by a small holder who is 100% self sufficient in food vs a Eco car purchased by a city-living "Green consumer" who has thrown away all thier perfectly good old stuff and replaced with news sustainable stuff, and then agin becuase it was not from an ethical factory and then a new bag as the old one looked tatty and they go shopping for clothes ever weekend.

And dot get me started on public transport. Last year I worked all over london on a project and never needed to so-much-as get a taxi as they have tube or bus stations about every 3 feet. I was only late once and hardly even bothered to look at timetables as they are so frequent. Most I waalked was about 2 miles.

With the exotics the mean average over a year has to make them greener than any in the "best" list.

I will leave the Viper and the Lambo in the garage during the week to appease the greens....... that will ease my concience a little.

Oh heck....... I forgot....... I haven't won the lotto yet !

I can get our XKR to show 2 MPG , by harsh acceleration - up to the legally posted limits

Ie; when joining a motorway, off a slow-moving slip-road

So, that's not a 'green car', but it will also return 25-30MPG, if driven accordingly

Have managed to get My Ford fiesta 1.4tdci to show 12MPG - thats less than the Landrover (just), and it will be replaced in 18 months.

Toyota Prius - not at all eco friendly - just look at the batteries!!! and on the motorway............. BMW 325d uses a lot less fuel.

The Prius really is a bit of a con. My Dad's Saab TiD gets around 58-59mpg on a reasonable run and not much less around town. I have never seen it drop below 57mpg even with my habit of using all 150bhp to wind up the local BMW population...

So, the same fuel economy in a far quicker and more pleasant to drive car. Why should I be buying a hybrid again?
