« on: March 27, 2005, 03:29:07 »
Hi All, picked up a Nato hitch the other day and would like to strip the several layers of paint off.

What would be the best way :?:
Cheers.

Well your quite welcome to send it up too me Colin

The paint on there is no doubt years old, may take several coats of even the best paint stripper to completely remove all traces. Left soaking is your best bet. We have metal weighing plates and lids which we use to cover the paint batches at work. Over the year they tend to get cover in many layers, so once a year over the christmas shut down they are soaked in solvent, needless to say when we go back they are completely stripped  :D

I strip mine right down, wire brush them and paint with Hammerite (not what it used to be).  They look fine until you use them, I wonder why I bother :?

Has that hook got a swivel base as well, or a fixed one. If your sankey has a 360 degree eye, no probs

Agree, no matter what you repaint them with around the inside jaw and the top locking part it will be rubbed off with use, even new ones.
