With some mintex pads in the Discovery they can slip forwards in the caliper allowing them to rub and squeel! Take them back out and grind the leading edge off, that should cure it. You did of course put some copper slip on the back of them as well?
Think its sorted  I removed them again last night...cleaned all the crap from the calipers and made sure there was plenty of clearance between the disk and the metal shroud (which was also covoured in crud).Used an angle grinder to smooth the front edge of the pad. Smeared copper slip on the back of the pads and round the pistons.Put it all back together, and hey presto no more squeal. There is still a bit of a smell when I use the brake, but its nowhere near as bad...which makes me think they are coated with something thats slowly being burnt off.Its raining this morning, so they may have an effect on the squeal, but fingers crossed the problem may be solved. Thanks all for your advice
