Banging my head against a wall
« on: June 30, 2009, 21:53:01 »
This Post has been 'Self Moderated'. It has been removed by LSP's alter ego, as it was deemed that LSP had been naughty and said rude things about people that he shouldn't have been rude about, as nasty people (who are a bit like the nasty wraith like things that suck your soul out in the Harry Potter films) at LSP's work, would take him away for re-edumacation and take away his pension and do horrible things to him with a herring.

No more shall I mention the subject. Its VERBOTTEN!

Sorry for wasting your time.

All is well in LSP land (recieves another prod with pointy stick)

I thought rural "fuz" (no offence meant) still used Land Rovers?

Surely a Disco 3 would have been more suitable, all be it with some simex extremes :afro:

Winch, lift kit and Safari snorkel oh and a camo blues and twos.

Bummer tho huh? Navaras cant even negotiate a small rutted lane without grounding.

Cost is the main factor. Practicality means squat. I won't say anymore, as I don't want to be a victim of some over enthusiastic hack or over zealous 'rubber healed' desk commando looking for an easy scalp.

I thought I had wiped the 1st version a bit quicker than I had done

With things being tight and companies trying to save money, etc there's been a list of things not to buy doing the rounds for a while. These can be because of build quality or cost of maintanance etc. Land Rover is on the list.

LSP, Gotcha!!!!

A few years back, the MCA used to issue the Coastguard Rescue Service 4x4 vehicles that had road tyres on, I.E. what they came from the factory with! This was particularly prevelant with the Jap models.

Unfortunately it was tragic circumstances that got them to change their minds on this. One of my colleagues further north went off a 200ft cliff backwards and the blame for this was laid squarely on the tyres. Within days, every 4x4 vehicle on CG service was issued with mud terrain tyres!!

We're now going through a period where people have forgotten this incident and are now getting us to log how often the vehicles are driven off road, how severe the terrain was, how many miles was driven etc. They will use this at a later date to justify sending vehicles out with road biased tyres! Totally forgetting that these vehicles can be driven a bit slower on the road to compensate for tyres but need to perform 100% offroad!!

I beg to differ!

The MCA took delivery of a load and within 12 months over 50% had their engines disintegrate!! Not good when you are hoofing with the blues and two's to a cliff faller!

Yes that was an engine problem, and yes it was probably a specific batch made together, but not good for an emergency vehicle.

There have also been serious safety concerns and there is a web site !!

They pay people to stop smoking? Hmm. Interesting! Perhaps I could get the Job to sponsor me to stop the ciggies and pay for the tyres instead of giving me the cash!

On second thoughts, cigs me the excuse to leave the office for 5 mins to get away from the bureaucrats.............no, stop, calm down, peace, cider, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Just go for fresh air breaks, I started doing that when I realised smokers get an extra hours break everyday!

Perhaps tthey took the tyre design from these. Vastly overinflated and with pointy bits on to get better grip on sand.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3424/3709034567_54177bd632_b.jpg Better than walking...maybe.

That is the actual beast I'm on about, or not if you get my drift, [-X

It is indeed better than walking, but it needs to be capable of doing the job for which it was bought, which with the tyres that are shown in the first pic it is not!
Stop stop stop!
Going into one again!

And not that is not me in the pic! I have less hair, slightly shorter and less 'streamlined' that that chap!

Scorpian somr thing or other they were called did me proud off road never got stuck in the mud and i did take it around sibbertoft pay and play site. As well as up and down stannage. But For near a big drop think i would be leaning towards a nice set of AT'S at least

no doubt they have a 'the factory fitted them so they MUST be OK' mentality
also if they are like most employers - they are lokoing at the 'H&s ' aspect of fitting NON standard tyres... in other words - a right loads of ba**s
