Land Rover 90 1 Seat Leon Gti 0
« on: July 08, 2009, 21:00:43 »
Picture the scene.
Whilst on my way home from work i'm following a 7.5 ton Lgv at around 40 mph with a few cars behind me.

The 7.5 tonner indicates left and starts braking so i apply the brakes and look in my rear view mirror and see a Seat Gti thingy overtaking the row of traffic

At this point a car appears in the other direction so the Seat swings in behind me and i'm still braking  The Seat can't slow down in time and rear ends me.

Seat has a smashed grill, bonnet, bumper and radiator.  Driver cheesed off

90 has paint on the tow ball no other damage. Driver not cheesed off

Justice i say

Nice one.

I was sat in mine once eating my dinner in tesco car park.

the car next to me parked in and smashed thier door so hard into my rock slider that it made a nice round dent in the edge.... I just wound the window down, looked at mine, looked at hers, and did the window up :)

She oddly just left and didnt even bother doing any shopping!

Discovery 1, Peuget 206 0!

Queing in traffic... a week ago... move forward al of two feet... Kerrrunch!

Li'l old lady rear ended me... had to laugh... some scratches in the underside of my bumper... her front end is written off.

Gonna have to start wearing stickers... like the fighter pilots did. Pic of a 206 with a line through it just below drivers window perhaps.

The usual advice on avoiding getting your car scratched or dented, don't park near:

People carriers
Anything with child seats in
Anywhere next to a "parent and child" space

Oddly enough with tree sliders on I'm not too worried about these things!

Some good stories coming out here!
My rear right bumperette has had two 'incidents':
A motorbike - Who overtook a small Queue straight into me.
Another time i was parked up and the car behind pulled out and caught my bumperette leaving a deep scratch all down its left side, she then saw me and quite a few mates not looking impressed and jumped a set of red lights!

Reverse story.....

Many, many years ago (too many to admit too!) I had a Morris 1000 van with a tow bar. One morning waiting to turn right a Cherokee ran straight into the back of me. He didn't even brake... so hit me at about 30mph and shunted the Minor forward some distance. Bent my tow bar and rear panel so i couldn't open the doors. The front of the Jeep was pouring water with the front panel was *very* stoved in.

The reason for the crash was he was looking at the same scantily clad young lady, walking her dog, that I had just looked at moments before

The story gets better.....
Fixed the broken lenses on my van and carried on using it. So the tow bar and rear panel were still pushed in. A couple of weeks later I was waiting pull out onto a main road. Rolled forward a little and stopped. The girl behind thought I was pulling away and ran straight into me. It was only a gentle nudge but when she saw the damage she went as white as a sheet "Did I do that???"

Fixed the van for £200. I suspect the Cherokee cost a little more

whats quite common here is the inability of the other users to realise the implications of a landie in plain view going slower or in some cases stationery positions and STILL managing to clobber them

its not like you drive a gee whizz or something small  is it.

at a roundabout on a duel carrige way i pull forward a couple of feet for a better view, the woman in the micra drove straight into the back of me. hopped out the car for a look  - micras wing, bonnet and lights completley  smashed. did feel quite sorry for the woman driving when i got out- all 6foot 5 of me in tatty overalls getting out of a white pickup must have been quite alarming :D

I am certain that the MOD and JSDF (Japanese Self-Defence Force) worked together on a top-secret invisibility project. I can't explain in any other way how I know so many people with invisible Land Rovers or Mitsubishis!

It never ceases to amaze me how people don't see something the size of a house stopped waiting to turn right  I'm putting extra stop/tail lights on the back of the roof on mine. Had far too many near misses with the old 110.
