Sportrak loadspace rearrangements!
« on: July 09, 2009, 21:11:07 »
well, what happened was......

i started off with loads of kit chucked in the back of the motor so i decided to be clever.
i always had the back seats folded for the extra room, so i decided to buy some of those 'really useful boxes' and this was the result...

lovely and simple, only now with the boxes in the back the usable load area was the width by about 12 inches (or a foot whichever!) so i decided to get vicious!

last night i took the back seats out and used the bolts to attach some tie downs.
now like the berk i am i didnt think of ebay, so i nipped down B&Q and bought some joining brackets with a hole in each end big enouggh to take an M8 bolt.
these were ace, but i forgot that 2 of the bolts were M10 so didnt go thru the hole! so out came the black & decker to mill the hole out.
so now i have 6 tie down points in addition to the seat belt anchor points and a few other handy places!
pic to follow when i find the cable!

so now i can fit oodles in the back! will test it this weekend when i take wifey for her first ever camping trip! (and its going to rain)! oh dear..... [-o<

here goes:

you can see i started off by laying the waffle boards out and spacing my 2"x2" baton out on either side of them and between them. the space underneath the waffles is lined with carpet to eliminate any vibration noise. i gripfilled the baton down and then cut the ply to size and screwed it down onto the baton. i then put a length of baton along behind the seats (leaving a gap big enough for a hi lift) and put the bulkhead into place and scewed it to the baton.

i can fit my boxes in and two fit side by side with six in total in there. they are also stackable so i can get more if need be. each one has different equipment in it so i can choose what i need for what job.

and this is all my tools stored in the back nice and neatly.

all in all i think it improves the back greatly. all i need to do is get one of they loc rac things for hi lifts and bolt it to the bulkhead so i can get at it from the front.
