Lost all lights!
« on: July 14, 2009, 23:44:05 »
Driving home last night I suddenly lost all of my lights  Main beam, side, tail and dash all went :? Checked all the fuses but wasn't really expecting to find a blown one as they are all seperately fused. Then found that I still had side, tail and dash if I brought the switch back one to side and tail. :-k

So I'm assuming it is the switch that has gone t*ts up. Does that sound likely????

Yes, you will probably find that the plastic holding the contactor for main beam has melted and let the contactor drop down slightly.

Best just to fit a new switch, easy enough job.

Do you run a set of spotlights as a spur from your light switch by any chance? Or even some high wattage bulbs.
I have seen guys have a switch melt down after having their spots wired this way, instead of through a relay, the switch just can,t take the extra loading.

Gaz
so many repairs
 so little time

Mine went even without having any extra lights up front.

Yes it was the melted switch. Made a temporary fix for now until I get a new one.

I do have an extra set of driving lamps but they appear to be wired correctly through a relay taking the feed from the high beam at the back of one of the bulb plugs.

What I didn't mention was the fact that a couple of  bl@@dy pikeys didn't see me bending down under the steering wheel trying to pull the steering column apart and reversed at speed back down the road to me which I heard and when I eventually sat back up one was just about to my driver door. Not sure who jumped most but he was the one that legged it back to his mate in the van and wheel span off up the road :troll:
