ever been headhunted?

I,m in a dilemma, A company doing the same sort of thing as the one i work for is trying to get me to work for them, the offer sounds very good but as with everything there is an element of risk. they are not established in the area yet so have no track record but seem to have done ok in the area they are based, in these changing times with the credit crunch my industry does not seem to have been affected and there is currently more work than there are people todo it so people with my experience are in demand.
what to do that is the question, stay where its secure( as much as any job is) or change, the prospect of working for a new company and establishing the business appeals to me but the element of risk that goes with it makes me cautious

same dilema, scaff company is going into hoisting, they have no hoist engineers to fix the hoist and want me to go. more pay and better hours but i have seen it before. the scaffs will dog all of there stuff as usuial and before long they will have wrecked the hoists give up with them and start hireing off of my current firm again.

if your safe where you are, stay. if you dont think you are give it a shot.

Oh, Difficult one!!

I was in a similar position a few years back, new company starting in the area, but it was my current director who was shipping out of the family business to start up on his own.

He had a good track record and i'd always enjoyed working with him, he tended to listen to me and gave me free rein to do my thing! He was willing to match my salary, but the overall package wasn't as good, having said that, there was real talk of things to come once the company got established with a much improved package. 

I decided to stay where I was as we had just had our 1st born so it wasn't the best time. He took it on the chin, but did come looking for me when things got difficult for him, ultimately he went bankrupt unfortunately, he blamed his choice of managers for this but I was glad I took the route I did.

Yup and go for it, you can dictate better terms, have more of an influence in how things go and have some fun to boot.

Or you can stay where you are and spend years regretting it ;)

see thats the worry , will i regret not going and then see the new company grow into something big? i get the offer in writing tomorrow so have to see how it looks then :-k

 I once got oferred a job in a brand new logistics/shipping company, when i had the interview there was a total of 2 staff in 1 rented room, so i had a similar dilema, Do i stay where i was in a well paid job/secure job or leave  :-k


  The shipping company now has 17 branches around the world


  I decided back then to stay where i was  :roll:   

  Guess if there are jobs out there in your industry, Then why not ?   "One life" n all that  ;)

Joanne (SWMBO) was head-hunted into the post she holds now (& offered a post previously too!)

She was working for the same NHS Trust as I do (but she'd been there a lot longer; in both Nursing & 'managerial' posts)

The first time, she was on the 'New Hospital Development Board', & was asked by one of the bidders (a multi-national construction company) who was impressed with her reports/documents/constructive criticisms/relevent questions that they asked if she was interested in working for another arm of the company...........

As a Director, in their Dallas office :shock:

However, 'small-child' was still very much a toddler at that point, so we decided it wouldn't be fair to 'rob' both sets of grand-parents the chance to see her grow up.

But..... if the same offer (or similar happens again; for Canada, or Australia, we might just consider it)



Then, 5 years ago, a small Consultancy that was involved offered her a position, as a 'Principle Consultant In Health Provision Facilities Design', which was exactly what she was already doing.

This time she 'jumped ship', as it was UK based (with a Leeds office)

To date, she's been involved with (& consulted over), or helped lead projects for Hospitals/clinics in;
Leicester (Royal & 'Glenfields')
Market Harborough
London (Guys & St, Thomas's)
Liverpool
Newport & Cardiff
Hartlepool
etc.....



I've told her, if she gets another good pay-rise, I'm quitting the NHS & becoming a 'house-husband'/'kept man'

Mention it to the company you work for now, see what the reaction is 

rumours spread like swine flu in our company so they already have wind of it, that and a couple of other people have the same dilemma where i work ;)

I was head hunted eight months ago in the NHS ,  new speciality , great learning curve, nice pay rise -- yes cant complain --bit more stress--  so what keeps you on your toes and stops you stagnating lol

I was was headhunted a few years ago from a large established company (200 people) to a small start-up (5 people !!) in the same industry. I could see the 'writing on the wall' at the large company- it was heading for decline due to poor management. Now they are down to 40 people and we are up to 29 people! Most of my new staff are 'hand-picked' from the old place. I know who all the good workers are - and also the people to avoid.......

Moving jobs is always a risk- but these days it the only way to move up and onwards and more importantly get a sizable pay rise. You will not be rewarded staying in one job too long- just exploited.

you,ve hit the nail on the head there, the company i work for is a large well established company, they have traded for 200years and have 500 people working for them, but the way things are run is very old fashioned and its like running in glue trying to change things,
i think i have made the right decision [-o<  i,ll keep you posted
