I've just taken the plunge and filled up the Disco with Morrisons B30 biodiesel. So far so good. Has anyone else tried it?

Wasn't aware they sell it.  What proportion is bio and how much did you pay?

according to their spec its a 30% mix of veg oil and 70% mineral, at 99.9p a litre where I am.

I'll watch out for that, although I think LR don't approve of biodiesel. And most "normal" diesel is now a 5% blend anyway.

I can't see a saving as normal deisel is 99.9 where I live.

I have been using it for about a year now. I haven,t noticed any improvements in power or economy but proberly won't with 35's on.
It does seem to smoke less though compared to the Citi diesel they sell at Sainsbury's

I was thinking the same. The local Sainsbury's last night had petrol and diesel both at 100.9. It seems diesel is dropping in price at the moment.

Our local abusive monopoly (both garages owned by the same people, and they charge well over the odds because there's no competition) currently wants 105.9 for diesel. I'd love to see Morrisons open nearby with those prices!

Apparently it's ok in Mitsubishi engines, I'd put some in my Disco but the nearest Morrisons is about 40mins drive so it'll have to wait until I'm passing one in need of fuel.

We're supposedly getting a Tesco with a fuel station attached. The only local business this will hit is the fuel monopoly!  :lol:

I'm very much in favour of Bio being easily available, especially at those prices.

I had a shock when on holiday in south wales recently and saw morrisons petrol and diesel at 99.9p a litre. Here in Daventry it is min 106.9 for diesel and 104.9 for petrol. Higher in some garages. I would love to see a Tesco or Morrisons open a petrol station here.

Digressing slightly, there's a new ASDA opened not too far away (well, a replacement bigger store, for the 'shed' that was there before) & it's got 'card-only' pumps.


IE; you insert the card first, not seen those for years, & certainly not around here  - should do away with the 'drive-offs'

I don't blame them going that route but with the drive off's so appealing because many of the blood stupid big name garages have a policy of not pressing charges Esso forecourt in Magor Services ,Wales in summer time could have 3 or 4 drive offs per day, in the 3 years my mrs worked their part time during her student years they  only once was followed up and caught one, hardly any went as far as being reported to police.
Thing with these card only forecourt, when I seen one in Bristol there wasn't any staff or anything.... what happens in an emergency like a car fire? Normal garages the staff are trained in such things like turning off the pumps.

Not sure, on occasions, there's a member of staff in a little 'hut' who advises customers on how to use it.
He's (generally a guy) not there on a night, so whether they shut the pumps down overnight? (24hr opening)

I tried that morissons biodiesel in my TD5, it didnt like it at low revs on a cold engine... I wont be using it again.

Wouldnt buy diesel with ethanol in it, it is very VERY bad for diesels and can degrade the seals very quickly and knacker the injectors.
It is only the modern new landrover engines that are not supposed to be run on bio diesel because they have not been round long enough to perform enough testing on them.

I didn't think you had a choice, isn't the case that ALL fuel at the pump is now to contain 5% non fossil fuel additive.

Ethanol is NOT being put into diesel, only petrol.
Diesel is having 5% bio diesel, mostly from rape seed, added.

There's an emergency call point, and the pumps can be shut down remotely.

On the subject of car fires, driving back from Ipswich yesterday along the A14 I stopped for fuel and while I was there someone decided that a petrol station was the ideal place to take their car, that was threatening to go up in flames, to seek assistance  :shock:  :roll:  :doh:

And on the subject of the new 5% bio-diesel standard, according to the figures I've seen this 5% means that the crop grown to produce it will have absorbed the same amount of CO² as is produced when driving, making it "carbon neutral". So our road tax should be reduced because we're no longer environmentally unfriendly.  :-k

Our ASDA in Aintree has had the automated pumps for a few years now, certainly speeds things up.

I DREAM of cheap diesel!!

I live within 40 miles of the major refineries (they are in Pembroke South Pembs, i'm in North Pembs) but we pay way over the odds compared to most places.

I will stick to veg oil,just found a supply of 38p a litre!!!!!!!!!!
