What's it worth...?
« on: August 06, 2009, 18:02:18 »
Just looking for a ball park figure while I decide what to do with this hunk of metal that I'm having a love / hate relationship with...

1994 Disco V8i 125,000 miles, Black

Bad bits:
No MOT...
failed on Nearside headlamp aim too low (fixed)
Offside headlamp aim too low (fixed)
Nearside Track rod end ball join has excessive play
Nearside Steering lock stop incorrectly adjusted
Offside Steering lock stop incorrectly adjusted
front to rear brake pipe excessively corroded
nearside registration plate lamp not working (fixed)
                Parking brake efficiency below requirements
                Exhaust emissions hydrocarbon content excessive
No Tax

Good bits:
new plugs
new ht leads
new dizzy cap
new rotor arm
new vac advance hose
multipoint lpg conversion
NO welding required
bodywork sound
interior sound
5 decent tyres

Have done all the obvious things and it is running better than it was, I would really like it to be working again but simply can't afford to keep replacing bits to sort out the misfire that's causing the excessive HC, and my little 306 cabby aint up to the job of towing our caravan   ;)

Thoughts on value appreciated...

I all i knew was its a 94 v8 disco with no mot or tax, id say you would be lucky to get more than £250. ( i paid £150 last year!)

As the mot is all small stuff id maybe make it up to £300. I paid (£400 for a 96 es but 300tdi no mot)

but then the work it need for the mot is minor ( if you can get past the emissions) half a day and  and a few parts.

8-[ as little as that?  I was hoping it would be at least £600, based on items such as this one on the bay.

That one is auto & diesel, V8's dont seem to fetch as much unles they have a gas conversion
Sorry I know thats not what you want to hear but Discos at the moment are fetching really low figures, I have a 1998 300tdi auto in mint condition new mot & tax ready for sale & will let it go for £1500, never off roaded & never welded

mine is auto, and gas converted too.  Just back from a local landy dealer, he'll give me £500 for it, so not as bad as I feared.

Can you not have it tested running on gas? This should overcome the HC problem, the rest is minor

The place i used to work had a couple of v8's that failed on emmisions, just switch it to gas ragged them up and down the road to get it warmed up and it passed first time. if you can keep it running/stopping/starting on gas that is.
