Poorly 90
« on: August 24, 2009, 09:28:17 »
Hi folks,

Seems that my 90 is poorly again :(

First off some background: It's a 300 Tdi with an Allisport intercooler.

I can start the engine, sometimes with a little effort from the loud pedal, but then when I rev the engine it picks up and stalls. It hits the revs ok, but that's it. It just cuts out straight away. There was a split in one of the air hoses (not the one that leads to the top of the intecooler), the one that leads into the left hand side of the engine. Both hoses have now been removed but it still does the same thing.

Any ideas what it might be?

Cheers,
  Lee

Fuel filter?

Does it start again straight away, or does it need encouragement?

Could also be air being drawn in to the lines - whats the top of the tank like under the drivers seat?

Take your pick... spill rail lines, fuel return line, lift pump - from the description given it does sound something like air being drawn in somewhere - had that once, it was the bits of rubber hose on the spill rail - very difficult to spot but it was driveable, just stuttered if I tried to put my foot down.

Depends, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. Local Landy expert has mentioned potential issues with timing and so on. It's off to the garage tomorrow (hopefully) to see what the issue is :) Have been without my 90 for over 6 weeks now :(

Definatly a fuel starvation issue, id expect it to be a pipe, maybe the fuel pickup pipe, mine did that

It seems to have been a fuel issue! The turbo was split, but once fixed it didn't solve the problem. The mechanic had the 90 running fine from a jerry can, so he thinks that there may be some grit or dirt in the fuel tank. Hopefully she'll be back soon, once the MOT has been done as well.

Ah the joys of cars :)

Where did he add the jerry can to the system?

it will help clarify all is well from that point on!

I still suspect the top of the fuel tank - Mine was rusty as anything there
