Should I buy a Jimny?
« on: August 29, 2009, 17:03:39 »
are they any good?

Im looking at replacing my sportrak in the next year or so, and im looking at other options. I think the best option maybe a Jimny (small, light easily customised etc...) i understand they are fully live axled and coilsprung aswell which in my view would be a vast improvement on the sportys current assortment of rear leaf sprung live axle and front independent suss.it does the job but aint great. also could i stick my 235/75 r15 mudders on alloys straight on the jimny if i did get one?? are daihatsu and suzuki the same fitment?

since i was young ive always wanted a 90 butthey cost a bomb to run and insure (im 22 and drive a fair way to work every day)!

anybody willing to turn me to the dark side of suzukis??

Get one I used to have a heavly modded Sj after I rolled that I brought my jimmy and have never looked back being able to keep up with the flow of traffic in comfort is brill. The figment are the same to fit that size you will need a little lift about a 2 inch but it's fairly easy you might get away with just the spring spacers that bits 4 bits sell.

I would recommend one.
Thanks,

I had a Jim when they first came out and the only modding parts came from DJ Engineering ,i found it hard to live with gutless ,you get that 3 in a phone box feeling awful choppy ride AKA nodding dog syndrome not good on fuel for a 1300 ,BUT do the 2in lift some good rubber and its a neat little brute , i fitted a Janspeed 4 branch manifold ,full flow airfilter, threw the back seats out ,put the spare inside over the back axle, and then got fed up with it,but i would have a dohc model think they are better  but for now happy with GeeVee swb 1600,

Std with AT's or MT's they go any where. Modded (bits now getting easier and cheaper to find) they go further. Yes they're small - but so's a 90 inside.

hehe, i wish, they never had any in! i went along with the idea of just test driving one and having a nose around, but they never had any so he set about trying to sell me an alto!! err, no ta!hehe. i gave him me details and he'll let me know when they get some in. aparamtely theyre quite popular and go quickly.

i might try and get a good used model as most of the ones i see around here never seem to be dirty indicating not many are used off the tarmac.  did a search of the swindon suzuki dealerships website and found an 09 plate ex demo with 1200 miles on the clock for 7k.. hmmm? :-k

jimnys are brill of road AFTER spending about £1000 on lifting it and all the radius arms and bits , then they are good.

well, i can actually keep up with the flow of traffic which is great but off road its a much better ride than the sporty, alot softer. sporty was a demon in the mud so we shall see how we go with the jimny although it looks promising so far!
