Light bar for a Jeep
« on: August 30, 2009, 18:09:49 »
Hi all ............... has anyone fitted a light-bar to the roof of their Grand Cherokee ? I currently have a roof-rack fitted which acts as the mount for my lights but I'm considering swapping this for a lower key light bar using some of these modern mini spotlights which seem to be just as powerful as the big stuff. Maybe leds. Also want to get some better illumination for reversing with the light beginning to go - already !!

I'm also condsidering putting daytime running lights on the front & back - I've seen front ones at Halfords, but can't seem to see any rears. I've noticed that hgvs seem to make extensive use of small led lights - often only one or two bulbs, but they're pretty effective. Does anyone have any ideas about where I could look for lighting or know of a travelling auto-electrician that could help me ?

I've seen, also in Halfords, the roof bars by Thule & also their own brand, but I'm not so sure whether lights would fit to these bars ok.

Is it only me or are there others of you out there that don't have a great deal of patience with stuff like this & prefer to earn the money so I can just pay someone to do the whole job for me & save me all the aggro ? Lol !

It's probably just my age ....................

Ditto. Any feedback on this'd be great as I'd like to do it too. Why should our green badge friends have all the mods?

Boogieman: curious how you currently have your lights fitted. Any photos?

Hi HO ............... they're currently fitted onto the proper Surco mounts which clamp to the roof-rack. There were 4 up there but I've reduced it to 2 mounted upside down so I can get the Jeep in the garage without having to take the rack off each time. One of the others had a problem with the rim & one with a seized mounting so I didn't refit those.

They're like this now ...........

These are the brackets - click on the spotlight !!

Me too BF - apparently a longer fixing bolt's going to be needed to attach to a roof-bar. I'm making some other progress as well so I'll post as soon as I have something concrete ! What did you hear back ?
