Floating over 60kmh

Hi Guys i picked up a 1991 Land rover 110 about 2 months ago and only recently had time to play around in it , due to the modifications it has had to have for the work it will be doing (Jeep Safari).I have installed more seats and the top half of the body is off and a roll cage has been installed, but i cannot see why this would affect the handling with no load. Ive noticed that as soon as i hit the 60 kmh mark i seem to float all over the road. There are a few bad points about it, the tires are remoulds and there is about a quarter turn play in the steering, these problems i can fix but i wondered if there may be an underlying problem somewhere. Any answers would be a great help Cheers

I'd guess just calling it a 'Jeep' may be the start of your problems :lol:

At that age steering linkage and all the bushes would be well worth a hard look/replace, but very able techie types will be along soon I'm sure.

Cheers for the reply Age. Bushes have been replaced with new ones since my last post as that was the first thing that sprung to mind( :oops: for not thinking off that before i post) and I'll pop the steering box and linkage into a garage in hope of a refurb but I'm pretty sure its going to need a new one. Im in Turkey moved here 4 years ago and taken up Jeep Safari work. Really good fun off roading for a living :P .Got a 1982 CJ8 and the Landrover that will be up and running for next season.
