Added more pics of my 90 build
« on: September 13, 2009, 16:54:47 »
Finally got round to updating my web site. The 90 is getting close to finished  I would say we are now 'weeks' away, although I'm not defining how many weeks since it has been nearly 2 years so far

That has to be one of best and most well thought out rebuilds I have seen. Congrats on a very very good job mate.

It does make me chuckle when people talk about their 'full rebuilds' when they are actually little more than a chassis swap or the like. I wouldn't call mine a full rebuild since I haven't touched the engine beyond a few seals and gaskets, or the front diff, or the transfer box.....!! My main aim is to have a rot free chassis and good wiring for reliability. Then all the underside metalwork sorted and painted so it lasts as well as I can expect. But as you can see, I got a little carried away

There are times when all I want is to have it finished, but it is fair to say I do generally enjoy the process.

We are just about to make some billet aluminium CB mounts that bolt to the roof. Then a billet alloy breather manifold! It's so nice having our own CNC machining centre

Just in the process of building some aluminium speaker 'pods' to go in the roof right in the back corners. They will cover the rear upper light wiring and will have interior lights underneath that come on when the rear door is opened. Not sure how they will perform accoustically, but they are in a Land Rover, so I won't be able to hear them anyway

Yeah I know what you mean, and I know I have referred to Phoenix as a 'rebuild' and in some ways it is, as the engine has been reconned, as has the gearbox and transferbox, and the axles were fine anyway, but although I removed all the rust, I didn't strip it down to the extent you have, purely because I was fortunate that I didn't need to. However, it has been re-engined and transmission changed so its not as standard, hence not realy a 'rebuild'.

It's closer to a rebuild than most people get. But why messy with the engine and transmission if it works!

Dont think Steve will keep the engine which is in there, so why waste too much time and effort on it.

He's cleaned and painted it because it would look out of place as a rusty leaking lump in what is virtualy a new 90.

 oh my post wasn't actually aimed at steve or anyone in particular - I haven't even looked at his website yet - and I do not think for one minute he is suggesting it's been reconditioned via an application of paint! I on about the ebay sale horror stories where you get the classic 'rebuilt engine xxx thousand miles ago' and a big end drops on new owner a week later.

I never saw your post as a go at me! It's just my mate Mutz getting all protective

Your post made me laugh.... it's amazing how long an oil leak can be held back with plenty of paint slapped on!

As for mine, I just changed a few gaskets and seals in the hope it won't drop too much on the driveway and gave it a quick lick of paint to tidy it up a bit. It'll do for now and I'll maybe look for a 200tdi next year.... or when the bank account recovers a bit..... Oh, on that basis it might be a few years

Apologies Tanglefoot, i did read it the wrong way

Protective, Moi

I have seen Steve's 90 in the flesh and know he has put a lot of time and effort into getting it right, (not to mention money), and can appreciate that he wasnt going to waste money on an engine he's going to replace.

Check the link out and you will see the results so far.

Steve when you going to be knocking them spacers out for mud clubbers ?

We looked at it, but using 7075 material would make them too expensive and there are plenty out there already. But I suspect they use the lower strength 6082 material.

Link is corrupt so the browser translates it as  "http://www.dsnclassics.co.uk/sjn/http//:www.crowndiffs.co.uk" so it ends up at the hosts root address of www.dsnclassics.co.uk.

anyway on page http://www.dsnclassics.co.uk/sjn/rear%20axle.htm (line 162)

change the link code from :

Code: [Select]
(<a href="http//:www.crowndiffs.co.uk" target="_blank">www.crowndiffs.co.uk</a>)
to

Code: [Select]
(<a href="http://www.crowndiffs.co.uk" target="_blank">www.crowndiffs.co.uk</a>)
it's got the : in the wrong place and it causing the bug (http//: instead of http://)

Ah, I was looking at the 'suppliers' page where it works fine! Now sorted thanks.

The issue with the browser going to DSN Classics is because I'm using the work server to host my site. I ran out of space on Virgin!

I am trying to find an unmodified body panel. There is some very good mods and design ideas!

Really good looking vehicle - so when is the unveiling?
