although i prefer the raptor engineering dash i do like the look of the mud consol,

Today i started on the van conversion.
This will make the back end much more secure when the camping and stowage equipment goes in.
Also while the sides are off i'm changing the cappings for genuine galvanised ones
Panel removed

Inside

One side done



I'll do the other side tomorrow and change the tailgate on Wednesday (weather permitting)

Tuesday
After dodging the morning rain i set about the other side today
First job is to undo every nut and bolt that holds the side panels in place

Then remove it

Remove the rusty capping

Then i fitted the new capping and the other non window side panel (which come from a 88" Series 3)

As you can see i had to throw in the towel today as the light disapeared




Wednesday
The weather held off today so back out to do some more.
Today is swap the tailgate day  :dance:
You can see why it needed to go   :shock:







Off with the old and on with the new (er)

I took this opotunity to re-set the spare wheel carrier so its closer to the door.
Much better fit  :D

I didn't spot it before but there is no hole on the out side for the rear wiper or the hole for the wire from the heated screen to run down through.
I'll go and buy a hole cutter tomorrow and deal with those  ;)

Back together again!!

Just got a few minor jobs to finish in the morning and then get it prepered for painting

only a year difference in our trucks but decades difference in corrosion!

you going to grill out those rear windows? Are you going to paint roof/sides?

The previous owner only had it for one thing, shooting.
It was used and abused and never loved so some parts went to pot very quickly.
By the time i'm done it be very smart  ;)
The panels, tailgate and cappings will be colour coded and the whole car will be cleaned and polished to bring back its slightly dull look at the moment.
This is a long term project which i have a lot of ideas for and a few trips planned with
I reckon it'll be finished in 3 years time  :shock: :lol:

Doing some really good mod's there mate, got me thinking about doing some of them to mine, heated mirrors are waiting to go on mine when i've painted the new hinges, though i must say by far the best mod i've done so far is the heated screen :)

Today i finished the rear door, installed the rear wiper and re-fitted the old headlining.





There's still a few little snag jobs that need doing and i need to get a tailgate door card asap but other wise it looks ace  :dance:
Then I treated it to a shower down at the local jet wash   :kiss:





Now,just need to get rid of the rubbish  ;)

Sorry, been doing a few more jobs  :D
I 've fitted the CB into my Mud dash
I used a din mount which gives a good simple look to the dash



I've used a side mount on the back of the roof with a Orbitor antenna.

Then it was time for a big install
First job was to fit a rear work light

Followed by my new fibreglass headlining  :mrgreen:





And my new roof console

I had to cut the headlining to fit the console.  The two are not instantly compatable as the console is designed around the Land Rover headlining



The cb has been relocated up into the console so i put the blanking tray back into the mud dash

Headlining is looking rather smart

The finish looks like this

I installed a passenger grab handle too.

You have to trim the sun visors down when fitting the roof console



I fitted a 100 amp alternator

Then i began the ply lining of the load area.



The Series sides have ribs that run along the length which i used to fix some baton too





Now that the basic walls are in place i can start planning the lay out of the rear.  There will be accessory sockets in there for the fridge and so on.
I'll do the flooring soon then find some material to cover it all.
Then i'll insulate the walls, seal the panels in and get some edging on the ply.
i have  fitted my new rear diff guard  :dance:

Its a ARB Dana 60 cover which fits like a glove  :wink:
Just got to get a D44 one for the front axle now
i fitted some much nicer, original looking heated mirrors
I brought a couple of new mirror heads and drilled through the bottom

Took the mirrors apart and stuck heater pads on the back

Added a decent length of wire then rebuilt them



Then drill down through the ball section of the mirror arm
And the underside if the arm into the hinge





Remove the door hinge bolts and open hinge

Route the wire through a p clip

In through the bulk head

Once both sets of wire were in the car i removed the top of the dash to feed the wires to the Mud dash





The switch, relay and fuse were already in place from my previous install

To celebrate i gave it a birthday wash and polish

Now for the winch
First job was to replace the sagging springs with some HD Land Rover springs, new dampers and some D44 HD turret rings

Then i fitted a Milemarker SEC-8 winch

I stripped of the wire rope ready from my Plasma rope

For security i have installed a HD battery isolator switch





I want to install winch switches on the dash and use my Warn wireless remote to operate the winch so i replaced the solenoid pack and fitted a Allbright contactor





You can now see its sits nice and level

Are those springs lifted? If not they may just be the ticket for mine as it is also drooping at the front even without a winch! I'm fitting some 33" tyres so don't really want to lift it as I don't think it's necessary.

No they are not lifted.  Standard height LR springs for 110/130
