...intermediate gear

bah, this disco box I was going to fit is more unhealthy than first thought. Think I will abandon this one and seek a later healthier box that hasn't gone around the world a dozen times.

or at least it don't feel right to me, no idea what effect that movement would have or how long it would last. Just checked my defender box which drove fine and it got simular movement but not quite as bad

Ditched that old box and picked up a low milage box from breakers which came from a LT 230 1.222:1 TD5 disco2 which is really nice box.
My 110 is a 300tdi.
Had to change the front propshaft mating flange as it was bigger, swapped with old. Changed the hi/low linkage as it different shape (just swapped the housing over with old one). The disco2 doesn't have speedo pickup off the transfer box (gets it via ABS), nor does the rear shaft have the drive gear for speedo so no point machining a hole into case, so swapped the rear shaft case complete with the shaft itelf and swapped with the defender one - easy fix. Ditched the drum brake and fitted my x-brake back on. Unfortunately the disco input gear doesn't have a PTO dog gear on the end of it so my winch is decommissed until I can budget to swap that out for a 38tooth defender one (about 80 quid). The box does have the difflock stub and gubbings fitted it just wasn't used in the D2 (later d2 boxes had it removed totally for awhile ) Good job I picked myself from the breakers because there where many there without difflock fitted at all. Difflock engages nicely, as does the change from hi to low, the difflock lamp works.
Put the box into the truck last night and finished off this morning with a test drive over to parents in Wales. Bit odd with now using 4th as all wonder gear. The motorway was really smooth and quite, breezed along at 70mph and coudl hold a conversation without shouting and repeating. Before the cruise speed was pleasant at 55 - 60mph and fuel sucked away at 70+. It's going to make my trip up to John-o-groats more pleasant drive I think.
