rev counter and wipers

Hi guys new to this game so could do with some help just got disco s1 via mud club contact and have a few probs rev counter dosent stay consant jumps up and down even when doing constant speed only ok when ticking over dosent seem to be any lack of power also wiper motor dose not switch of most of the time have changed relay but still the same intermittent is constant any ideas to what is wrong thanks guys

The rev counter maybe a dodgy connection on the back of the alternator its only a daft little spade connector easy to replace if its broken

 sorry cant help with the wiper problem

Do you mean, when you switch it for intermittent wipe, the motor runs constantly instead?
That'd probably be the 'park' switch on the motor case, if you've already changed the timer-relay (which is not the same one as the normal wiper relay).

Worth checking your alternator too - when my first one went it started over-charging the battery, symptoms of this included the battery light flashing on and off and the rev counter flailing around.
1996 Discovery 300TDI. She's got it where it counts...
