auto box

can anyone help found a problem with auto box it gets stack in first gear then once i get to 40/45 mph it will then select 2nd gear and the box works fine from there. plus it might be once the engine warms up to runing temp. The car is fine apart from once the thing has gone cold and i have this gearbox gets stack again. But like i say once it starts selc " gear it works fine. can anyone now what this could be.

Start the old girl up today let the engine get to running temp" to see if the sticky gear would go better into 2nd but it did not work i seem to have to hold it at 35/40mph to get it to work.

before anything, give it a oil change
bont forget to drop the sump of it and change the oil filter  ;) ;)
thats the common cause of sluggish changes or reluctant changes

does it work fine if you manualy go up the gears ??

My V8 defender has the same problem exactly believe some debris may be jamming gov valve or something, check ashcroft transmissions web site there is some tips and info about this problem :D

if there's abit of debris jamming a valve or the govenor then id put money on the clutch packs being virtually shot aswel
the slightest bit of dirt in a auto can casue alot of damage
i had to rebuild my autobox completely because of this reason  :'(
