« on: October 25, 2009, 17:15:59 »
I have just swapped my 3.9 engine in my rangie as the old one dropped a piston i changed it to the later engine with the serpentine belt it runs fine on gas but when on petrol it has a miss has any body got a clue what could be wrong
If it ain't broke hit it with a big hammer then it will be.

The  EFI system earths via some eyelets at the rear of the LHS head, easy to miss one of those.
Fuel pump, filter, regulator, AFM, ECU, injectors are not used by simple gas system, so possible faults there.
Lambda sensors (if fitted) may or may not be used by gas.  Very often it uses only one, leaving room for the other one to broke for petrol.

Well my fist question would be did it run ok on the old engine?

If so then did you keep any parts of the old engine? inlet/injestors etc or was the replacement dropped in with all the EFi in place.

Check plugs, timing, then as Rossko says check the sensors (by sustitution for a known good part).

What make of gas conversion, what type?
