D2 vibration & whine, Urgent help needed please

I guys hoping you can help me out as i'm pulling my hair out over this as I need to keep my disco on the road because my wife is critical in hospital & am having to keep dashing to & from the hospital every day
It started on Saturday at around 50-60mph i could feel a slight vibration coming through the floor & pedal & could hear a whine. Sorry it's a 2000 D2 V8 auto. I have removed the front prop but can't find any play in the UJ's & all the joints in the UJ's look moist apart from 2 which are the 2 that go onto the prop from the double UJ. I have found a slight bit of movement in the up & down direction on the front drive flange for the front prop & could hear a sort of knocking sound when I wiggled it very hard coming from the inside of the T/box :? I have taken the disco for a quick spin down the road & the vibration has either gone or reduced alot but will find out better this afternoon on the next hospital run. I did however hear the whine again at about 60mph :?
Any help or pointers what to look at/check next would be most greatfull as I need to keep the disco on the road or fix whats wrong very fast as thing aren't looking good for my wife at the min & need to be with her
Many thanks
Neil

Sorry to hear about your wife.
Check all the levels just for piece of mind... wheel bearings? Im by no means a LR expert tho. I would have said UJ's although you said you have already checked these.
Wheel balancing, wheels tight, tyres?
Discs warped?

Well things are on the up for my wife as she is hopefully coming out of HDU in the morning :PSince removing the front prop &giving the disco a good run the vibration seems to have stopped but I now get a clonk when a put my foot on the throttle or off it at mainly slow speeds but this has happened upto 40mph. The whine is there mainly when on over run or comes & go's at crusing speeds of around 60mph

The last time i had that clunking was a loose wheel... altho this was on a focus not a D2.
If you have chance get underneath and check the bushes with a crowbar and an inspection light. I don't know the symptoms of a nackered diff as ive not yet worked on one with, maybe someone else has?
Is she man or auto?
Im assuming that difflock is engaged when the front prop was ditached could the added mechanical wind up cause the clunk on accel and overrun.
With the front prop off how do the UJ's feel when twisted and rotated?
Hope i'm not teaching you to suck eggs just thinking out loud really.

Thanks for the replies & no John656 your not telling me how to suck eggs as this is my 1st LR so I need to learn all there is about them ;)The UJ's feel nice TBH with no play :?but removed it due to vibration as I have heard if they let go you realy could do with a new motor due to the amount of damage they cause :(

I was going to say get rid of the wife, but reading the original post that's probably in bad taste.
Have a look on the props for a clean mark where there used to be a balancing weight.
If there was no front prop there would be no wind up.

The prop has it's weights attached as I have checked that which is making me wonder if the prop is in the T/box due to the play on the flange & if I shake it hard there is a sort of shaft knocking sound
The good news is if my wifes blood tests come back better I may get her home tomorrow :P I might be able to put some weight back on again as I haven't done the cooking in almost 10 years
I'm very greatfull for your help guys :P
