Blast from the past, I got my  HGV in one of those in the early 80s

And they are fantastic fun off road, over a bump its sky sky sky lurch forward and there be the ground

Hmmmm, tempting.  Do I need a C2 licence or can I drive it on my C1?

i wouldn't want one for the road, its just not good enough, the four speed box doesn't help, and the fact you need arms like arnie to turn it.

though they are fun off road and they do great donuts on mud with no weight on the back... 8-[

You can drive it on your C licence as its only a 4.5 tonner

there still in use - often found littering motorways!

Getting into fourth can be a challenge on some of them.

Well after driving an overladen one for 10 years my arms never did reach Arnie proportions but certainly needed it  And make sure you use the seat belts otherwise you and your co-driver will both be making like Garfield on the windscreen the first time you touch those brakes

I believe you can get them classified as a C1 in civilian use but this limits your laden weight to below that of it's original intended use.

It certainly is clean!, & not too far from me either

I always thought that was the 'MK', as the civvy version was the 'TK', & that the 'MJ' was the sucessor with the squared off cab?

Nah! Save yourself some money in the long run and buy one of these http://www.mod-sales.com/direct/vehicle/,26,/14692/Bedford.htm# (A proper bedford ;)) And flog off all the Ptarmigan assemblies and SCAM 12 masts seperately on fleabay (a good mast will sell for £400-600 alone and there should be 3 of them) . I reckon you'd make more than half your money back and still be left with a well equipped box body with 240v heating 2x gene sets all ready for an expedition vehicle conversion.

If I had the money I would :(

I also passed my, (then), HGV 3 in Germany, when in the army.
Superb truck, but I can't remember the steering being too bad, as I'm not strong in the forearm area.
I remember driving a TK skip in Northern Ireland too, and it had a five-speed box, it had power steering and was as light as feather. Maybe, if funds allow, you could do a conversion.

I remember my first exercise in BAOR in the early 80's. A young tech sent out to assist a Radio Relay crew in one of these...

We got crashed out at night and the driver was descending a steep track, in the dark on sidelights only. He changed down a gear... it jumped out of gear and smashed his elbow... so there we were.. downhill...in the dark... in neutral with a disabled driver!

Aaaarrggghhhh!!!!!!!!!

He's screaming at me to put it back in gear... I'm not a driver.. don't even know what gears are... was quite exciting for a moment!

Awsome beasts.. will go anywhere in the right hands.
